brandygirlo Posted April 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2009 I have read on the boards, that it is highly recommended to go all the way to Eileson. Was there any reason for stopping there and not go on to Wonder Lake or Kantishna? Can you get on and off the bus to explore? If so, why not go all the way to the end, explore, get back on, get off at Wonder Lake and so on?
wolfie11 Posted April 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2009 For most people, it is a matter of how much time they want to spend on the bus. It is around 8 hours to Eielson and back. From Eielson to Wonder Lake is only recommended if the Mountain is out. Kantishna is interesting if you are into hiking around, as the bus stop is not really close to anything. It is a 12-13 hour day if you chose to go to Kantishna, and that's if you take the same bus back instead of wandering around.
brandygirlo Posted April 3, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted April 3, 2009 Thanks so much for the clarification. That really helps with our planning. Do you know if you can get on and off the bus throughout the day?
wolfie11 Posted April 4, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2009 Yes, you can ask to be let off anywhere except near wildlife. Keep in mind that some shuttles may be running full during peak return hours and you may have to wait for a shuttle with seats.

Budget Queen Posted April 4, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2009 Kantishna is a lot of private property, which you have to be aware of. Wonder Lake has significant mosquito problems, of which I never go there prior to mid August. The wildlife drops off after Eielson as well. brandygirlo Posted April 4, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted April 4, 2009 Thanks for the heads up about mosquitoes. I seem to be a magnet for them even when wearing repellent.
