kb996 Posted April 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Does anyone know why the POA went to Hilo today instead of Maui? Was that the original itinerary or did it change? I can imagine that if it were a change it sent alot of folks scrambling who had arranged their own car rental, etc. James? Can you fill us in? BTW, I read this on your twitter post. :D
Don Haynes Posted April 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Usually in the past when the Pride ships in Hawaii have changed itineraries one of these two events caused the change. The first being a typhoon or hurricane. The second being a most important cargo ship probably is using their dock at one of the ports of call. A few times each year either a tanker or pineapple/sugar cane cargo ship have been known to occupy the cruise ship's berth. The once a month or once a year agricultural ship is of more vital importance to an island's economy than any cruise ship. The delivery of oil or the uploading of Hawaii's agricultural economy rates higher. Since the ship can sail overnight to another island in these situations itineraries can be changed to visit that island another day during the week's cruise. As far as the shore excursions go, this won't effect their business much other than doing it on another day. Mostly schedule, not cancellations. The cruise line along with the port of call and their shore excursion businesses are fully aware of these events a few weeks in advance. Since no port of call is really cancelled, only rescheduled, NCL doesn't even bother to mess with posting itinerary changes on their web site. As Shakespeare wrote: Much ado about nothing..... Rare ohioNCLcruiser Posted April 20, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Our itin will be different for the next 2 voyages also. Like said above this is due to port scheduling. These were not last min changes but always sold like this so no surprises here!
electricron Posted April 20, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2009 NCL doesn't even bother to mess with posting itinerary changes on their web site. That's not entirely true. NCL does post these itinerary changes as soon as they are aware of it.
