Rental car question for St John/Halifax

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on the Triumph 5 day cruise out of NYC with stops in St. John and Halifax. Are there rental car agencies in the area of the port at either of these stops? On last cruise we had car rental scheduled for each stop and it was so nice (and less expensive!) to go off and tour on our own.

In Saint John, if you are docking at Pugsley Terminal, Avis is across the street and to the left a bit, and if you are docking at Long Wharf Enterprise is a short walk from the end of the pier--continue under the overpass and walk up the street past Harbour Station and it will be just beyond there on your right. Just don't make the common mistake of reserving a car in St. John's or your car will be waiting for you in Newfoundland while you are in New Brunswick. Emphasize the Saint John with the "saint" spelled out and no apostrophe "s"

In Halifax, the closet one is an Alamo/National location at the Westin Hotel. The back of the hotel is pretty much across the street from where you exit the port. Alos, there's Budget location about a 10 minute walk away on Hollis St.

In Halifax. Avis is within walking distance a little closer then Hertz. I have rented from Avis and Enterprise(when it was in the train station-it may have moved). In St John's we used Avis. That is a little farther. But not that far.... They sometimes do meet you at the terminal but its sometimes hit and miss. In halifax Avis drove is back. Its Canada everyone is so nice.

How do you get them to meet you at the cruise terminal? Do you call ahead. How far is the walk from the pier to Avis Office. Do you think the rental car is the way to go. I really want to see Peggy;s Cove, Swiss Air Memorial, Titantic Cementary, Maritime Museum and would not mid seeing the Citadel and gardents. Thanks for the info:)
