Hi Matt,

When you check in at the wharf 8 you will be given a boarding group number. This is determined by the time you check in, not the cabin you are booked in. There are usually twenty groups and then it is 'open boarding'.

i dont how far from sydney you are but if you close enough to wharf 8 may be it would worth a trip to it and have a looknot being funny, if its anything like brisbane you can see most of what happens when boarding and disembarking ,

Hi Matt,

Unless there is a delay from the ship arriving late (or a swine flu scare) boarding usually starts earlier than the stated time. If we can, we usually arrive earlier than the time.

Hi Matt,

Check-in usually takes only 10 - 15 minutes, but the time is spent waiting for your 'group' to be called. You can ask the girls at check-in how long it is likely to be, then go for a walk outside. Don't worry about missing your call. When they call a particular group, the call is for those people plus all earlier groups.

This could go on for a while, particularly if the flu gets into the general community. People board cruise ships with colds and flu, but it will slow things down if everyone with a sniffle has to be tested.

You have me worried Matt. We are on same cruise and were delighted to be boarding at 12.30 as told. You mention that you were the same but have now been told 3.30 instead. Could you advise if this was from P & O as we have not been told of any change and were planning on arriving at 11.30. because on our first cruise (Nov o8) we were told 12.30 but were actually allowed to start at 11.30.

PS. Allawah, brings back many memoriies.

Maybe it might be worth checking the departure time. Last year we went on a 2 night cruise on the Pac Sun from Sydney to Brisbane and the departure was listed as 8pm (like your cruise). I was told by the P & O call centre that boarding was at 6pm. I thought this was odd so I phoned them three times because I was unsure of the correctness of the answer. We had booked a flight from Brisbane that would have us at the wharf by lunch time. We decided not to change the flights, and when we arrived at the wharf we found that boarding was under way. It was to be by 6pm. Wasn't I glad we didn't arrive at 6pm or 6.05pm. :D

Matt - You mentioned that you booked with a good TA. Maybe they might be able to ask a supervisor for the correct time.

Yes Evon, sometimes it takes many various answers before you get someone who actually knows (not just talking ship info here) it is sooo frustrating. How hard would it be to keep the frontline of any operation updated so as not to waste people's time. So glad you went early anyway. I will hound till I find out.

Matt, thankyou, and I will also keep you informed of any info I find out.

Yes I am following your clock you have set. Will count down with you. I just checked my personalizer and found the times on mine have changed since I last looked. Have sent off an email tonight. Am really angry as we have made plans based on the earlier time. Re work etc. They probably don't want to have to supply lunch as well.

Both of my parents grew up in Botany St, so had many a fun time over there to visit grandparents (I grew up in Oatley West) Also stayed at grandmothers house when began my 1st job. Walking to the station and always making a mad dash for the train. Worked at Hurstville and Mortdale, school at Penshurst, so the whole area owns all my childhood memories. Visited recently and found one of the houses still there and still the same. (No 27) Lived last 30 years in the Campbelltown Area. But you never forget the sweet memories of your childhood.

hi all, my docs state 12:00pm boarding. I have found with all my cruises (mainly in USA) that they state boarding from 1:00pm however once all people have disembarked from arriving cruise they start loading the newbies on. Most ships start embarking from 11:00'sih. Don't worry lunch will be provided as they prefer people not to go directly to cabins as they are usally still in process of being cleaned. Hey catch you guys on 31st in the Casino LOL

We always go directly to our cabin, and this has been as early as 11am. The cabins have always been ready, but we just leave our hand luggage, say hello to our cabin steward then go for a wander around and lunch.:):)
