Ah the days of $1 bets and 100 times odds and then dinner at the steakhouse.

Great poker and comped coffee shop.

Man I miss that place.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO scottr4020: From my understanding they don't have $1 Pass Line bets anymore. In fact, when I was a tourist there in the early '90's every casino even those on Las Vegas Blvd had a $1 minimum bet table. Now, it no longer exists. Even the last time I was in Las Vegas, 1997, that was slowly going. The steak dinners were great as were the chicken dinners they had.

Many of the Hotels/Casinos I used to eat at and/or play in the casino are not there anymore.

It's been probably 5 years since I was in Vegas. Does the Casino Royale still exist on the strip? They used to have 0.25 and 0.50 Roulette, don't know what the craps was since I didn't play craps back then. The Gold Coast also had some low limit tables.

Casino Royale is still there. Next to Harrah's. They still offer 100X odds on their craps tables too. Although that's when the minimum bet is $5. They offer $3 minimum during the week, but on weekends it goes up to $5 or $10 depending on the crowd. They always seem to have a table at lower minimums than anywhere else except for downtown.

I don't know about Roulette as I have never played it so I don't bother looking at the minimums.

I'll be at Harrah's in 10 days (and I AM counting) :D But Harrah's (Horse Shoe) in Shreveport, LA.... Was in Vegas 3 weeks ago... it was HOT! And thats coming from someone living in Texas where its 103 to 105 each day now.... But had a great time and won on craps while I was there.

If you don't like Casino Royal, try the new Margaritaville Casino between Margaritaville and the Flamingo... Its a nice little casino with a relaxed atmosphere. There craps table treated me very well.....

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO sailor_jimc: I used to live in Las Vegas. It does get hot there from part of June through labor day weekend. You can however have heat wave's in the fall and/or spring. I found the best place to be in Las Vegas in the heat is on Fremont Street where the front of the casinos are open and the A.C. is on. You also have the sprinklers from the trees in the middle of the street. That is near where the experience is.

I did live in Texas a few years too. Stationed at Fort Hood. It is hot and humid there.

A good friend of mine who used to work the crap tables at Harrahs now works at Margaritaville. Had a good time there the last time I was there. Always have a great time in Vegas. Go see the Terry Fator show at the Mirage if you want to see a talented entertainer.

On my HAL cruise last year, there were very few craps players. Some nights, I was throw'n by myself for an hour or so. I expected many older generation (WWII) guys, ie on HAL, to be craps players. I'm late 50's and see craps as the only true gambling. Maybe that's why I'm hearing HAL might be removing the craps tables.

I can't understand all the screaming and yelling over at the blackjack table. Wow, even money, 6:5....

I find much more craps action on Royal with guys my age. What do you guys think is the future for craps?

Craps looks like an expensive game for casinos to run with multiple workers at each table. The good thing about it is when the husband is playing it, the spouse is somewhere on a slot machine. I see more electronic crap tables but they are a joke. Only game for me to play and would be sorry to see it go. Best times I've had in a casino have been at craps tables.

Yep, I'll often try to get a table going after dinner. Sometimes my wife will come over and play if I'm roll'in. She likes Let it Ride and video poker trying to get the big hit. We both stay away from the straight slots.

If the table isn't open, I might go and play some blackjack to kill the time. So if they pull the crap table, I guess I'll end up at video poker, even with the terrible pay tables.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO cruzincurt:Craps is the only really good game to play in the casino. I also like Video Poker and I have learned to play Three-Card-Poker. Although it doesn't pay true odds it is a fun game.

Three card poker goes too fast for me. My wife plays the three card poker side bet on Let It Ride. She has had some sizable wins at it.

I'll play blackjack if the craps is not open. But its a long hard grind to make any money. I do enjoy watching those that split 10's.

My second favorite gambling story has to do with blackjack. When Foxwoods casino first opened it just swarmed with people. I was there and the crowds were huge. What they did was at the blackjack tables if you were standing behind someone playing you could bet on their hand. Some guy was standing behind a kid playing who was betting $10 a hand. The guy put down a thousand and said he was betting on the kids hand. The kid got a twenty. He turned to the guy behind him and said "For $100 I won't take a hit". I would hire that kid.

We had a guy in a casino right on the NV/UT line do kind of the same thing he was playing 3 hands at $1K a hand, dealt 15, 17, 18 against a 6. The guy playing 3rd base said he wouldn't hit if the guy gave him $100. Guy laughed it off as he thought the guy was joking but he hit a 17 and busted and dealer turned a 21, casino ended up having to call the cops as the high roller went after the other guy

Makes you want to open a casino doesn't it? One of my favorite lines that I hear people say is "Hey, I'm playing with their money".

These are completely different scenarios. In the first case, the guy playing behind would expect to lose around $923 if the kid hit.

In the second case, the guy at the table expects to win or lose the exact same amount regardless of whether third base hit or not.

It's been a while since I last posted, but I just spent last two weekends playing craps at the Cosmo in LV and in AC at Revel. I won during both trips, which was quite good, but I'm starting to get a little bored with the way I play and I'm hoping to change up my strategy a bit on an upcoming cruise. Here is how I normally play:

Roll #1

- $60 DP Bet w/$2 Yo to hedge

Roll #2

- $30 DC Bet

Roll #3

- $45 DC Bet

If 6/8 comes on any of the roles I'll place $18 or $12 as a hedge. If 4/10 comes, I'll take odds when the table is cold. If I get the two DC numbers out, I'll also sometimes take no 4/10 bets for $102, but these are optional. I know that odds wise, the hedge on the 6/8 increases the casino's vig, but I prefer this approach rather than leaving it without protection (unless the table is rolling a lot of 7's...then I might try to leave it alone).

Here is what I was thinking instead of playing my "usual":

Roll #1

- $60 DP Bet w/$2 Yo

Roll #2

- $30 DC Bet

- Place $72 inside, $100 no 4 and no 10

Roll #3

- #45 DC Bet

- Drop to $48 inside and only one $100 no 4 or 10 bet

After third roll, come down off of the inside bets and the no 4/10.

My thinking with this strategy:

I see the numbers coming on the inside and I think I could make money money on those with the place bet. Of course, If a 4/10 come out I lose the $100. But even if I lose the $100, I'm still in 2/1 position with the $45 or $30 to win a portion of it back. Another option is on Row #2 to not place the 5/9, but only place the 6/8...and leave only one lay bet up...but I haven't thought through that yet.

Just curious to get thoughts/constructive criticisms.

Depends on if you are laying odds on your DP and DC bets. Let's take a look- (and I assume you are not laying any odds on the DP or DC bets)

Here is what I was thinking instead of playing my "usual":

Roll #1

- $60 DP Bet w/$2 Yo

....

Not much of a hedge. With the $2 Yo IF the 11 came out you would loose $60 and win $28... Net -$32

Seven looses $62

Most of the time you are giving the house $2 for the ability to only loose $32 if the 11 comes out. More likely a 7 comes out and you

lose the $62.

....

Roll #2

- $30 DC Bet

- Place $72 inside, $100 no 4 and no 10

....

Assuming that on this throw a point has already been made (otherwise this is a DP bet), it's got to be one of your inside numbers or the 4/10.

How are you coming up to $72 insides? Insides are 5,6,8,9 Unless you mean just 6/8 @ $36 each. Assuming point is 4/10 a $10/$12 bet on each is = $44 $15/$18 each = $66 $20/$24 = $88

Let's Break it down- If you have the numbers placed you can make money the first time they hit and then take the bet down and put the money on the lay odds of your DC. Hence you play with SOME of their money.

The worst case downside of this is of course the 7 comes before you make your place bets back. Assuming this happens when the point is not a 4/10 AND you have both the no 4 & no 10 you get your original DP win Plus the no 4/10 plus minus your place bets-

= DP(+$60) + No 4/10 ($25*2) - DC($30) -Place ($72) - the $2 yo = $110-104 Gain of $6

If I assuming with the $72 insides you meant 6/8 only and you say the point is 5 or 9 and you get a 6 AND 8 to roll and then the 7 (best case)

= DP(+60) + no 4/10 ($50) + (DC + odds of the 6 ($30 + $42 from place win as odds= win of $30+$35)) + (DC#2 on 8 plus odss = +$65) - Next DC(-$30) - $2 yo = total of $110+ $65*2 - $30 = $208 gain

The middle ground is if you have the 6/8 placed and the point is a 5/9 and the other point hits (a 5 or 9) and NOT a 6/8 and then the 7 comes-

= DP($60) + No 4/10($50) + 5/9 DC ($30) - Next DC bet ($30) - $72 in place bets - $2 Yo = $140 - $104 = $36 gain.

I think the worst case is if the next rolls hits your 4 or 10 (or both) before the 7 comes out-

= DP(+$60) +DC on 4 and 10 ($60) - No 4/10 ($100) -($72 place bets) -$2 = net of -$54

So following this scheme your best case win is $208, worst case is $-54. But that ignores all the other possible roll combinations. It also ignores the very real possibility of repeaters on the place bets (a 6/8 comes out twice) or the original point being hit right away. Way too many possibilities to do the math here. The only thing to be sure of is that in the long run you have a negative expected outcome. It's built into the game. But as gamblers we hope to string a couple of "best case" throws in a row and come out ahead.

....

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Grandpaul: Not a true statement. If the money belongs to the Casino it is there's. If you put it out it is yours. If you fail to beat the House it becomes their money. If you win it is your money.
