Air Tahiti Nui which flight does Regent use

Recommended Posts

For you previous PG cruisers that have used Regent's air: Which flight do they use out of LAX to Tahiti ? The Air Tahiti Nui website shows that they have a 1pm and a 4 pm on the day we fly out in October. Also, how far in advance does Regent give you the flights ? Thanks, Lisa

We are sailing 7/4, and they have us on the 1pm ATN flight, arriving at 6:30pm. The ship is scheduled to depart at 10pm. If that helps.... Could depend completely on when your ship is scheduled to depart.

Or it's completely random. We're on the 4p flight on 7/2, but fg159 from our roll call who's doing the same 2-night Intercontinental precruise as us, is on the 1p flight that day. They get 3 more hours of Tahiti than we do, not fair :(

Bearnaise,

When we meet and have a few drinks I will share with you how I was able to secure the 1pm departure.

Counting the days

Fred

Deviation and you did your own hotel arrangements?

It's OK with us. We're happy with the later flight for three reasons: (1) We'll get in too late to buy an expensive dinner at the hotel, thereby saving money; (2) I believe there's more room in business class on the second flight after playing with ATN's online reservation system a bit, therefore we stand a better chance of scoring a paid upgrade on that flight; and (3) the ATN ticket counter normally doesn't open until 3 hours before the flight, but since there's an earlier flight than ours, I'll hopefully be able to check-in and check for a paid upgrade before the 3 hour mark- I'm planning on getting to LAX around 11:30-12 and if they don't let me check in and attempt to upgrade that early, I'll camp out at the front of the line until they're ready. The only thing I can think of that would beat flying to Tahiti on July 2 would be flying to Tahiti in business class on July 2!

I feel your pain, Bearnaise. We were stuck on the 4 p.m. flight this time; that way Regent could fly us straight through from Toronto in one day without the "forced overnight" in L.A. We didn't mind that, although we had a long wait in LAX. The worst part was arriving at the hotel at 3 a.m. Of course, we then woke up in Tahiti!

See, no fair. I got stuck with both negatives: the 4p flight and we have a "forced overnight" in L.A. because we live here

But it's not as painful for us since it's only a 3 hr time difference, therefore only "1 a.m." when we check in. As I mentioned before, the only thing we'd probably be doing during that 7p-10p time slot in Tahiti is eating overpriced food and drinking overpriced drinks - I figure we'll save at least $200-$300, which I'll apply towards our biz class upgrade that I'm feeling pretty confident about.

I've already had a few lucky instances with regards to this trip, with big price reductions since our original booking and scoring the cabin upgrade, so we're "on a roll". Heck, if our luck holds and we get the upgrade at the airport, I might even try the casino once we're aboard the ship, something I'd ordinarily never do (being only a 3 hour drive from Vegas at home and admittedly not the smartest gambler, I normally have no use for little cruiseship casinos).

That was 3 a.m. local time. But our flight was an hour late. Let's hope that doesn't happen to you. You might be able to check before leaving for the airport if they are on time.

My 4:10p flight is scheduled to land at 9:30p local time, so we'd have to be really running late to get to bed at 3a.

We're spending the night at an LAX-area hotel since I live an hour away and have a park-and-fly deal that makes the room almost free for the price of the parking space, so we're going to get to LAX early no matter what. Even if the flight is delayed, there's no reason why we can't check in early and try for our upgrade. Also, I'm rather fond of the LAX International Terminal and rarely get to spend enough time there since I usually fly on Continental, so I'm perfectly happy spending a few hours in a place most travelers detest. Call me weird, but I actually enjoy waiting in (most) airports. It means I've traveling and I love to travel. The chairs upstairs are comfy enough and we can watch a movie on my laptop after a long lunch at the Daily Grill. If we managed to get our upgrade, we can then head through security and sit in the lounge, board early, and spend our flight drinking champagne and stretching our legs. If not, we'll "suffer" through a few non-complimentary cocktails at the gate bar, then squeeze into our little row of two in coach and try to doze through as much of the unpleasant 8 hours as possible. Either way, I'm excited!

Okay, well maybe I'm remember wrong. Maybe our flight was at six or even seven.

Right, sorry, I looked it up. Our scheduled departure was 18:40 with an arrival time of 1:10. We were about an hour late, and arrived at the hotel, after going through customs and everything and waiting for the friggin bus for all the GCT'ers and Vantagers, at 3 a.m., when we checked in. Fortunately check-in was an absolute breeze.

Which was probably 8 a.m. your time? Ouch.

According to the GCT website, they too will be flying in on July 2. However, they're slated to stay at the Radisson, so I'm guessing we'll have a separate much-less-crowded transfer to the IC, which is practically walking distance from the airport. If our flight lands on time or early, I'm hoping to be checked in by 11p and asleep by midnight. If not, it's going to be difficult to get up the next day - we're scheduled to dive at 10:30a.

Yeh, you'll probably be in the minority going to the IC, so you'll bed down earlier, no doubt. You must be getting pretty excited!

Oh, by the way, it may look like you could walk, but it would be a pretty unpleasant one, at least at night.

I said "practically". It's certainly not "practical" with luggage, or at night, or even IMO somewhere like Tahiti where it's hot & humid :D But at home, in nice weather, unencumbered, I could walk the distance in a heartbeat!

Still, it should be a very short drive and, since we've already "paid" for our transfers with our Regent air/precruise package, I can promise you we'll avail ourselves of a ride to the hotel.

Getting very excited, worsening by the day, hard to do much else other than sneak a peek here every hour or so to see if there's any new tidbits of news or information on the ship, though I'm really trying to work through the weekends now so I'm not too stressed at the last minute when we're almost out the door  But I can't work, I just keep thinking about that motu...

10 more days! Heck, our cruise will be longer than that, so if the next 10 days pass agonizingly slow, I can only hope the cruise feels just as long. But it never does. My only real complaint about our Mariner trip last year is that it was way too short (one week). 11 nights is probably still way too short, but it's a major improvement.

To Bernaise,

In September, we're arriving LAX day prior to boarding ATN's 4:10 p.m. flight to PPT. Which LAX-area hotel do you recommend for an overnight stay?

Wishing you a wonderful cruise on the PG and a memorable stay in FP.

I collect Starwood points and have platinum status, so for me it's either the Westin, the Sheraton, or the Four Points, depending on my mood or the deal I get. I'm doing the Four Points this time because the Westin and Sheraton only have one-week park-n-fly deals, while the Four Points' deal will cover my full 15 days. Otherwise, I'd probably pick the Sheraton because they have a better restaurant (Shula's), though the Westin hosts a jazz nite on Wednesdays that's pretty good. Even the Four Points is adequate, and a lot cheaper - they have a nice outdoor pool, a craft ale bar, and 24-hr room service.

I did stay at the Renaissance once, just to be different. I had expected more from their restaurant but it wasn't anything special. Of course there's a Hilton and a Mariott and an Embassy Suites in the area as well, and several more I'm forgetting, but anything fancier would be a bit of drive to Beverly Hills or West LA/Santa Monica.

Wishing you a wonderful cruise on the PG and a memorable stay in FP.

Same to you!

Hi Bearnaise,

Thanks so much for the info on hotels in the LAX area. We were able to book a night at the Four Points at a "reasonable" rate.

Will be looking forward to reading the review upon your return. Know I'll have many questions for you.

As long as you don't confuse Four Points with Four Seasons! It's sort of an upgraded motel, but recently renovated, new beds, flat-screen TVs, and hotel-like amenities, plus the obligatory shuttle service to the airport. It's not as pretty as the Westin or Sheraton, but often only 1/2 to 1/3 the price and free wifi too! For an overnight at an airport, it does the trick.

(When driving to the airport, I definitely prefer it. The Sheraton's self-park is a block away from the hotel and the Westin parking lot often fills up. On the other hand, I'm paying $188 total, including taxes and up to 20 days of parking, for a night at the Four Points - parking at any of the off-airport lots is easily that much alone, so the room is "free".)

I'm lugging my laptop to the ship, so I'll hopefully jot down some notes and try to compose a report before I get home. Otherwise, procrastinator that I am, it will never get finished. But either way, I'm always happy to answer questions :)

Nizurc -- For our 10/3 cruise we're staying overnight at an Embassy Suites. For my past two cruises, we've stayed at the Hilton near the airport. We always try to get an evening flight, fly first class, and then we don't have to worry about dinner. Yes, dinner at a restaurant would definitely be better than an airline dinner but we're saving money by eating on the plane.
