Byers Lake Nature Walk in Mt.McKinley?

We are on a Princess landtour at the end of August. I tried to do a search but came up with no reports as to how this tour is. I am looking at doing this through Princess but wondered if anyone had ever taken the Byers Lake Nature Walk. Also, does this fill up fast or can we wait until we get there to decide just in case the weather is not good? We will be at the Princess McKinley at the end of August for one night (basically an afternoon and morning). I also see that some of the tours are Talkeetna based. What does that mean? How does one go from the Princess lodge to Talkeetna without a car? Is there a shuttle?

Are there things to do on one's own at McKinley Lodge? From what I have read it seems to be pretty remote. We are not interested in taking any flights even though everyone raves about them.

We then go to Denali for two nights. We have booked the Eielson shuttle and plan on seeing the puppy demo with the rangers (the free one).

Suggestions, anyone? Thanks.
