Pusniski Posted June 30, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Fabulous shots! I know this is OT - what kind of camera were you using? We're looking to purchase a DSLR. We love our the two Canon point and shoots.
Thredolet Posted June 30, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Hi, Again many thanks to you- your kind comments are very appreciated. Thank you. BayStateguppy - I would love to post review however I am running out of time. In short- It was a good cruise travel. One suggestion - management of Serenade of the Seas should post more detailed bulletin with information regarding each port of call. Cassieroll - IMHO - yes- we had rather a good weather considering that this is Alaska'a summer time:))) Pusinski - I used Canon 20D with a new electronic software (recently up-dated by Canon due to necessary periodical maintenance). Now - to answer to your excellent question: a purchase of new DSLR camera? This is a very tough question to answer. Today, with advance technology, almost daily changes with a new digital-electronic ideas it is hard to suggest something that you will be very happy. Consider this: are you going to be a professional photographer? If yes then answer is simple- consider Canon or Nikon from the higher end. Please remember - DSLR with additional lenses is a very HEAVY proposition. I do carry sometimes over 35 lbs of extra lenses...what for ? :))) As the "middle of the road" is considered, here are a few ideas for you: Canon EOS Rebel T1I or Nikon D5000 or SONY Alpha A380 or Olympus E-620 or Panasonic DMC-GH1 Lumix. Please keep in mind - that all of these cameras shown above -that despite their bulkier and heavier bodies, generally they offer SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY and (IMHO this is important) FASTER PERFORMANCE than any compact point-and-shot models. If you do a photography for a pleasure- then you have on the market many great "pocket-sized" cameras which for sure meet your expcetations- for example: Canon PowerShot SX200IS or Nikon Coolpix S220 or Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 or recently this camera was nominated and winner of Best Digital Compact (if I remember correctly by Technical Image Press Association a.k.a TIPA) - Fujfilm F200 EXR ...and also do not discard a new Kodak e.g. EasyShare M1033 - sort of "mickey mouse" camera :))) however with some impressive results too! I hope that I gave you a lot of homework to do your own research ....I wish you good luck and have a fun too! Wish you all a great summer. Thredolet Posted June 30, 2009 Author #10 Share Posted June 30, 2009 Hello Mr/Ms Pusniski, I should also add that some cameras -today are equipped with a smart technology. Actually, it is a very smart technology! These camera sometimes outshoot many professional photographers thanks to advance technology. Again - new features in these cameras are like a DREAM to any photographer. Strongly consider these cameras: SONY 9.1 megapixel DSC-HX1 or Olympus 590UZ 12-megapixel SP-590UZ (look 26X optical zoom!!!) or Nikon 12-megapixel CoolpixS630 or some like this one too Samsung 12.2-megapixel WB550 or Panasonic 12.1 megapixel Lumix FS15 or Canon PowerShot SD960 IS or Kodak Easy Share Z980. All of these camera have in common? advance technology , many extra features which helps you to do a photography in very challenging environment as : capturing pastel hues of dusk without tripod!! or sensor shifting or shoot at a lower-quality higher ISO! These "goodies" are super and venture into these area... you will be a Pro big time!!!

kennelgang Posted July 1, 2009 #13 Share Posted July 1, 2009 Fabulous shots! I know this is OT - what kind of camera were you using? We're looking to purchase a DSLR. We love our the two Canon point and shoots. Hi Pusniski, I would like to change my signature and count down clock similar to what you have. I know that the picture comes from http://www.nauticalcities.com. However every time I try to upload it I get an "invalid file" message. Could you please provide the procedure you use to upload the picture and countdown clock? We will be on the Radiance next May. Thank you, Bob
