Looking to buy a new camera

Recommended Posts

I have the 50D and it is a great camera but I was already invested in Canon so I really only looked at Canon bodies when I purchased. When I decided to go with Canon it was because my Father-In-Law has a large amount of Canon lenses and Canon has a huge selection of lenses available. So for me the decision was more about other things (family, and lense selection) and less about the specific features of a camera body. I tend to look at lenses as semi-permanant gear and the camera body is temporary. A new body is realeased very year and I tend to upgrade bodies about every two years.

If you do not already have a bag full of expensive lenses I would look very hard at the big three: Canon, Nikon and Sony. They are all great but each has it's strong points. Once you pick a company and start buying lenses you are somewhat stuck so it pays to do your homework upfront.

I am in the market for a new camera. Trying to decide between the Canon 50D, Sony A350 or Nikon D90. Any suggestions from anyone that may own one of these cameras?

As Pilot said all good cameras, here are some indepth reviews:

Go down to a store and play with them. The output from all will be good and depending what your specific highest priority features are one will win. It can be overwhelming as they all have unique strengths.

Best sports shooter likely the 50D, best lowlight by a hair would be the D90 ( and it is the only one of the 3 with video ), must featured laden for the price is the Sony ( excluding video of course )

Happy shopping
