Good Beaches Near Hotels or Other Amentities

This is a great beach near the Little Arches Hotel on the South Coast (closer to the airport than to the cruise terminal). It is very popular with locals as well as tourists. There are two sides to the beach separated by a large groin. The smaller side is very calm and shallow...ideal for little guys. The larger side has light-medium wave action, ideal for beginner body surfing. There is lots of shade on both sides. There are boogie boards and beach chairs for rent (50% of the price on the west coast!). There are clean toilets and changing facilities, as well as outdoor showers. There is a broken- down looking canteen which serves good local food and inexpensive drinks. It accepts US$ in small denominations (change will be in BDOS$). Or you can go to the posher restaurant at Little Arches just across the street. When I was there, there were no strolling beach vendors - just a woman selling pretty pareos and beach clothes from a permanent stall. And there were also no jetskis (marvellous!).

I wouldn't say the BoatYard is in an industrial area, it's just on the outskirts of town. There are other businesses, churches, housing area, old buildings, etc.. but not industrial. The beach is nice, water great.. Carlisle Bay is very nice. good diving if you are into that. Lots to do if thats what you want.

I might recommend Accra Beach as well. Beach vendors with Chairs. Permenant food huts and a nice Beach facility with Bathrooms and a shower for washing off outside. Calmer area down the left side of the beach. A bit more wave action (when there are waves) on the right side of the beach. At low tide you can walk quite far to the right past several beach areas as well.

Enjoy
