temple1 Posted August 30, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2009 LOL- Key West - Print a walking tour map and bring your camera. Stop at one of the Key Lime Pie on a stick vendors and enjoy a treat. Make sure you visit the Key West page on the website. Nassau - Also print a walking tour map. If you're feeling athletic - you can walk up the Queens stair case and visit the fort. The library used to be the goal is and in a great building. Jitney's (local van/buses) are only $1.25 per person and can get you all over the island. There are some public beaches you can visit - but there is a lot of history in Nassau many cruise visitors miss. There is also Paradise Island and Atlantis Resort - you will either have to take the water taxi, a regular taxi or walk across the bridge. The hotel is interesting - but pricey if you go to more than the public areas. Coco Cay - Just take the tender over to the island and keep walking past the first beaches - take a right at the end of the path and look for a shady, quiet spot. On the 2nd half of your trip - stay on the ship in Nassau and enjoy the pool.

temple1 Posted August 30, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 30, 2009 You're welcome. I guess it is because i've always lived within an hour or two from the ocean I don't really understand why people will pay money to go to the beach, or take a cruise to new areas and then spend the day on the beach. We have always tried to visit the historic places and learn something about the area. I think there is a Junkanoo museum in Nassau - a really interesting local custom. Let us know how it goes. jgirvine2 Posted August 30, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Yeah, I agree. We just got back from London and walked everywhere. I always wear a pedometer just to see what we have done in a day. Thanks again.
temple1 Posted August 30, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 30, 2009 DH and I will be taking the 4 night Majesty in November. One thing I did this time was rent bicycles. We love to bike here and the rental agencies will deliver the bikes to the ship and provide baskets and locks.

temple1 Posted August 30, 2009 #10 Share Posted August 30, 2009 There are several in Key West, visit the Key West ports board and do a search on bicycle. We are using Bike Rentals Key West, they were a little higher than some of the other locations - but they have the specific type of bike we wanted. Rare BecciBoo Posted August 30, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 30, 2009 We just did that 4/3 B2B and we loved it. You get to do stuff on the second leg you missed the first. In Nassau, first leg, we did the all inclusive day at Breezes... very relaxing and for $60 pp not too bad when it included food and all you can drink, plus beach equipment, kayaks, etc. nice beach and pool. A little old and shabby, but nice. Second leg, we walked all around Marina Village on Paradise island and toured the casino and parts of the hotel at Atlantis. Keep in mind the local jitney buses only cost $1.25 per person anywhere. No charge. Had a great time. Key West: rainy there that day, walked down to Kermits for a piece of Original Key Lime pie in the rain, then back to ship to relax on pool deck and look out over the beautiful island. YOu can rent bikes here or the little electric cars(open to the weather) that are made like golf carts and run around the city. Don't know how much these cost but they are really cute. I agree, far side of CoCoCay is quiet and no people go that far. We swam with stingrays and the water is gorgeous. Small baby sharks over there too. Water is around 1 to 2 ft deep so you can see these critters easily. No charge All in all, we loved the B2B and Majesty is wonderful, best Windjammer food we have ever had on any ship. You will get a bottle of champagne and fruit plate in your room between cruises compliments of the hotel manager on board, for doing a successive cruise, which we used for the second sailaway. Ask your room steward if you do not get it. The routine between cruises is smooth, you get new seapasses in your room night before and then meet with staff who walks you down to the customs desk in Miami and then right back on board. Took all of 10 minutes. Your room will be rekeyed to the new pass when you return already! All we needed was our passport and seapass. Enjoy!
