GINGERWILDCAT Posted January 13, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Hi there, we're travelling from the UK later this month doing a week in Barbados followed by a weeks cruise, and have to fill out an ESTA, one of the questions asks place of departure, does this mean London or where our cruise departs from (Bridgetown). They also ask for our address where we are staying, do they mean the hotel in Barbados or the name of the cruise ship? All very confusing. Regards When I filled out my ESTA form I put down place of departure London and they only want the 1st place you are staying in when you arrive in the U.S. They approved my application so I guess it was correct. Hope that helps. Bill
Aplmac Posted January 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) ESTA questions are geared towards cut-and-dried Air Travel. Cruise Travel doesn't exist, you see. Don't take those location-questions too too seriously because after this trip is done, none of your answers NOW will apply to your second and third travel, on the same ESTA! What they ARE interested in establishing is Who You Are and if you're a security risk -and are you on their No Fly/No Travel list? After this trip is done, and you might be organising Trip Number Two, you can go back in to your ESTA listing on-line to Edit your answers re. pre-trip and post-trip hotels/ports,etc. so don't get yer knickers in too much of a twist over the locations questions. You might want to print out a copy of your sanctioned ESTA to walk with it in case (for some oddball reason) the Immigration Officer on duty can't find it listed in his system when he scans your passport's bar code. I've been thru all this several times now over the course of two ESTA's -so chin up, luv! ;) . Edited January 13, 2014 by Aplmac
Rare English Tim Posted January 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Hi there, we're travelling from the UK later this month doing a week in Barbados followed by a weeks cruise, and have to fill out an ESTA, one of the questions asks place of departure, does this mean London or where our cruise departs from (Bridgetown). They also ask for our address where we are staying, do they mean the hotel in Barbados or the name of the cruise ship? All very confusing. Regards An ESTA isn't required for visiting Barbados. However, I assume that the cruise may be calling at USA destinations and so the ESTA may be required. Either your TA or the cruise-line should advise you. This being the case, maybe the correct starting point is Bridgetown and your accommodation will be the cruise ship. If your flight to Barbados goes via a US hub, then you would need one. The purpose of the ESTA is for the USA authorities to have given prior approval for entry to their Country, or passage through it. Whatever you put, once approved, keep a copy with you when you travel. Some officers say it's unnecessary to take a copy, others berate you if you don't. Aplmac Posted January 13, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2014 (edited) Since this query was posted on the Carnival section of the boards I'm assuming the O.P.(Original Poster) might be doing the VALOR cruise that treks between Puerto Rico (on Sundays) and Barbados(on Wednesdays) -where OP may be boarding? If the OP is boarding Valor on Wed. Feb. 19th. we'll be on the same cruise!! :D . Edited January 13, 2014 by Aplmac
