anything to do by pier 91?

Recommended Posts

Our flight doesn't leave until 2:15. We have 3 boys ages 7, 7, 6. I really don't want to sit at the airport after debarking the ship. Is there anything right by the port or do i really need to rent a car? It sounds like our scheduled shuttle back to the airport would be around 12:15.

Pier 91 is in an industrial area, somewhat removed from downtown or most of the popular tourist sites. You could probably walk to a couple of restaurants--Palisade (upstairs, more upscale), and Maggie Bluffs (downstairs, casual, with a nice patio), both of which have a great view out across Elliott Bay Marina and the bay. Otherwise...there's not much else within walking distance of the pier.

If you really want to keep the kids entertained, you might want to consider that car rental. Finding parking anywhere around downtown to see the sights there could suck up a lot of your time, and you don't have all that much, so I wouldn't advise it. You could head toward the airport and make a stop at the Museum of Flight, which is right on the way. They won't have any parking issues--they'll have lots of space. If you can arrive at 10 am when they open, you'll have time for a decent visit, if slightly rushed.

They might enjoy visiting the USS Iowa at the berth nextdoor: http://www.pacificbattleship.com

There are rail (http://www.sanpedro.com/spcom/redcar.htm) & wheeled (http://www.sanpedro.com/SPCOM/sanpedrotrolley.htm) trolly cars that go along the waterfront or into downtown San Pedro.

In downtown SP there is a LAFD museum: http://www.lafdmuseum.org/index/museum_sanpedro

The LA Maritime Museum is also close: http://www.lamaritimemuseum.org

One assumes the OP is referring to Pier 91 in Seattle rather than Berth 91 in San Pedro.

If you don't want to rent a car:

check the schedule to see if there's a ship at pier 66 on that day.

http://www.portseattle.org/Cruise/Schedules-Cruise-Lines/Pages/default.aspx

If so, take a cab to pier 66 for about $20, use their Left Luggage facility and hang out downtown until noon. You can easily walk to Pike Place Market, or take the monorail to the Seattle Center, take a water taxi to Alki Beach, or just explore around the waterfront. If you can easily manage your luggage AND herd the kids, you can take the Light Rail from downtown to SeaTac.

But a rental car is the best option. Just store your luggage in the car and leave it on their lot until you're ready to head to the airport.

You need to be INSIDE the airport 2 hrs prior to departure. SeaTac is very busy on weekends especially during cruise season.

I would second this... When we were there off the ship from Pier 91 we did this (except we checked our bags at Amtrak since we were taking the train). Once you get to the area around Pier 66 there is plenty to do. You can go to Pike Place Market, there is an aquarium, Argosy boat tours of the harbour, shops and restaurants among other things.
