What should I expect to see on the walking tour of the Historical district?

How close to the cruise ship dock?

Thanks for your help

Are you planning on doing a tour from the ship or on your own?

It is about a 40 minute walk from the pier. You can get there by vehicle in 10 minutes. You can see a very historic synagogue, church and some other government buildings. Keith

Appreciate this very good summary by Keith. As noted below with my pictures, there are a variety of options to see in their downtown. There are, however, also other, very interesting locations and sights around at a little distance from their downtown. We did a three-hour private cab tour of the island that really worked well for us. Personally, we really enjoyed see "MORE" of wonderful Barbados than just the downtown.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

From our Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Amazon River-Caribbean combo sailing over 26 days that started in Barbados, here is the link below to that live/blog. Lots of great visuals from this amazing Brazil river and these various Caribbean Islands (Dutch ABC's, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, etc.) that we experienced. Check it out at:

Hey Terry, it's Len.

We will be in Barbados next month and we are looking for a good tour as we really don't do beaches. Can you recommend the tour company you used, or did you do a ship's excursion.

Hope you are well and miss you on the Baltics boards.

Cheers

Len

TLCOhio is the expert. Check out his photos if you haven't.

Barbados is one of those few ports in the Caribbean where taxi's are plentiful and reliable. English (with a strong British accent) is spoken. The drivers who pick up at the cruise terminal are very used to tourists and will take you on any kind of tour you want. Alternatively, they will suggest sights and length of tours for a specific price. They will happily replicate any ships tour for a much more reasonable price and add or subtract as you wish. The convenience and comfort of not being on a bus with 50 other tourists cannot be measured. You will see more and, with the full attention of your driver/guide, learn more about the island and it's people.
