Tues., 11/08 we will be docked in a Mahogany Bay. Hubby and I want a day on the beach and like the look of of all the amenities.

If we book thru the resort we can get a room for almost the same price.

My question is how do we travel there? Are taxi cabs easy?

We will be docked in Mahogany Bay from 10-6 and felt that we could enjoy this exclusive resort and have some quiet time to ourselves, too.

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks!!!:)

I think renting a room is a grand idea, I had no idea it was an option.

Taxi on the island are not regulated additionally it is difficult to know if any would be hanging about at Mahogany Bay, most people sort excursions or private drivers. I recommend you have a chat with Mayan, perhaps they would arrange round trip transport with a reliable driver.

I contacted the resort, and the reservation specialist was going to check into transportation back to the ship for me and never called back. I discovered the resort provides transportation to dock at 8, 10, 12:15 and 2pm.

The excursion is 5.5 hours. We are docked from 10-6. We wanted longer than 5.5 hours and wanted to have a room to relax in.

I was hoping someone on Cruise Critic had been down this road! :)

When we contacted the resort we could get a room for about $250, but no transportation back to the ship as far as we know.

Presumably the ship price included transport and possibly lunch? The room will just be for the room and, unless the room is an official "day room" price, may not be available until later in the day unless you book it for the night before (logistics to consider). Does the room price include any food or drink or is it a room only price?

Transport on Roatan is expensive especially if you are only a group of two. You would probably be as well, and safer with regards return transport, to have a driver for the day. I was quoted a ridiculous taxi fare, several years ago, to that resort.

Also, if I remember correctly with that resort, the different passes were very complicated and allowed access to different amenities, some passes have not allowed you to use the pools at times.
