vcd Posted February 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2015 Hi everyone, We want to go to Antarctica in January 2016 and have narrowed our search to Silversea Explorer and National Geographic Explorer or Orion. The only differences I can see is Silversea does not do any kayaking but they are basically the same in terms of daily excursions. NG trips are longer, if we want to go to South Georgia, Silversea is 18 days vs 24 days for NG. So NG is more expensive because it´s more days. In terms of daily excursions is it basically the same, are there any advantages in NG vs Silversea? I suppose you will have better food, cabins and service in Silversea, but excursions are important to us also. We went to Alaska with Silversea and liked it very much. Thank you. critterchick Posted April 13, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2015 The NG trip isn't really that much longer - they count Day 1 as the day you leave the US, while Silversea counts Day 1 as the day you embark. I think that the NG ship spends 5 days in the Falkland Islands vs. 3 for Silversea, which was the only substantive difference I noticed. Also, Silversea includes pretty much everything in your fare, while NG charges for extras. Just something to consider.:)
Rare PaulMCO Posted May 11, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2015 We did the Silversea cruise to Falkland/S Georgia and Antarctica. We liked it so much that we booked an Arctic cruise for this year. Silversea service was great as was the food.
