We rented a mini boat and toured the Simpson Bay Lagoon for $100 plus gas for 3 hours for 4 people. That was a lot of fun.

Hiking at Lotterie Farm only cost is 5E each and that took more than 2 hours I believe. It was a great workout I must say.

Sorry I guess I should have given a little more info about us, we are a group of 19, with kids ranging from 10-17 years old. So it must interest them also. A boat tour would be nice but it seems our group is too large for most and others are too much money per person. Looking for something that is $50 or less per person.

The mini boats sound fun!

boatrentalsxm.com/ is the website for the mini boat rentals. I would also suggest that you check out the Loterie Farm web site as well as Aquamania at the Simpson Bay marina. Since there are so many in your group I thought that a place that offers many options might appeal to you. Grand Case might work as well. There is a water sports booth at Petite Plage beach and they rent kayaks and offer snorkel trips out to the nearby Creole Rock. There are many restaurants in Grand Case and the perfumery that was mentioned earlier as well as some boutique shopping and scuba and underwater semi-submersible excursions all within walking distance from one another.

How far from the port is the mini boats, did you taxi over there, if so do you recall the price? I think this looks like a great idea for our group, I also read they would provide us with fishing gear, the kids would love that!

Thanks everyone for you help!

Sorry I forgot the www so I will try and post the link again. http://www.boatrentalsxm.com/

I would say that it's a 25 minute taxi ride from the port and the cost for 2 would be $16-$18 each way. If there are more than 2 then about $7 pp each way is what I would expect to pay.

Not sure about the fishing but for kids I'm sure that it would be fun. We docked in Marina Royale in Marigot and went to the market and to Serafina's bakery. We really enjoyed it.

  • 3 months later...

Now that we are back and did the mini boats I thought I would report back.

We were not impressed from start to finish. When we got there we were given a map of the lagoon, followed by 30 mins of information about where we were to go and places we were not to go. It was a lot of information to take in and I wish he had it written on the map. Once we got out in the lagoon it became clear we were not sure where we were to go, and it was very rough. The kids were scared.

We had 4 boats rented and one of them quit working so we towed in to a dock. We were given a cel phone to use in case we had any troubles. We were able to make one phone call to the owner and then the phone died. Luckily my husband is handy and was able to fix the boat.

We met a nice man at the dock who allowed us to use his phone to call the owners again and tell them how rough it was and we did not want to drive the boats back across the lagoon. The people at the dock watched us come across and said they couldn't believe we were out there with the waves being so big, and such a little boat.

He said we would be fine and was sending his wife to escort us back.

We drove back which took about half an hour going directly into the waves. We were completely soaked and I had a hard time seeing with the salt water getting into my eyes. I have been boating for 20 years and never experienced anything like it. When I got back I made it clear I was unhappy, our tour was supposed to be 3 hours and we were back just after an hour.

The lady asked me if I would recommend the tour and when I told her I would not she said, I don't expect you to and walked away. As a business owner I would never let someone leave unhappy without trying to fix what went wrong.

I received an email with an apology three days later.

I understand problems can occur but how it was handled by the owners afterwards is where they went wrong.

sending his wide to escort us back.

Oh no this isn't how your day was suppose to go.

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

The lagoon is protected and not normally too rough for even kayaks.

30 minutes of instructions especially with kids in the group is about 20 minutes too long. We only had about 5-10 minutes worth ourselves because we just needed the instructions on how to use the boat and a few safety tips along with marking a few places to see on the map.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know about your day and your issues. Hopefully the owners will read it to.
