Cruisegirl6 Posted September 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2016 Hello I been on many cruises but never really needed to notice the accessible issues, my son is going on a cruise and wants to take his dad who is wheelchair bound due to a horrible car accident. He has questions which I was unable to answer for sure, he like to know: He is going on the Magic and we both been on many cruises and noticed stairs such as in the dining room, question, is there an area he can go down to get down with his wheelchair in the dining room? His dad is unable to get out of the chair. I know Carnival is very good with these things I just need to assure him getting his dad to the table in the dining room won't be an issue, can anybody help truly appreciate it. Rare Essiesmom Posted September 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2016 First, does he have a handicapped cabin booked? A real one, not a modified one. Second, your table assignment will be on your Sail & Sign card if you have traditional dining. As soon as you can drop off your carryons in your cabin, go down to the MDR to see where your table is and if it is accessible to the wheelchair. the Maitre d' shoud be there to help you. If you have Anytime dining, it won't be an issue as they will escort you to an accessible table. EM
jarvb Posted September 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2016 We have never been on the magic but have been on a number of other Carnival cruises. My son uses a power wheelchair full time and has had no problems with accessing any of the dining venues. The main dining rooms are usually two levels. There are elevators that go to both of these levels and the entrance to the actual dining rooms have always been slightly ramped. If you have assigned dining, you may want to notify the special needs dept before departure that he is in a wheelchair and that it would be helpful to have seating arranged for easy access in the dining room. That will help with having to not try to navigate a chair between tables. There will be some areas of the ship that may be difficult, or impossible to access in a chair but for the most part, I think you will fund the public areas are accessible.
