Our family with 4 kids aged 14 13 10 and 2 are considering a cruise. What is the best option for choice of cabin? Connecting rooms? A suite? Which cruise line would be best. Probably looking a a more "budget line" Carnival or Norwegian , maybe Royal Carribean...

Thanks

Usually, a family such as yours would like to be in two adjoining preferably connecting rooms that are marked for 3 people ("triples"). I think that choice probably squeaks in under a family suite financially (if the ship even has an available suite of that size! there won't be many...).

An adult needs to be booked in each room; whether you then let the teens and tween have a room to themselves for sleeping purposes, is up to you. But that's why you can't go with three 2-person rooms.

I have read on CC that those larger suites can only be booked on the phone (whether by you or your travel agent).

Of course you will need to narrow down your choices by itinerary and dates, then see what ships might fit, then study the deck plans and ask on the line-specific Cruise Critic board(s).

Good luck and have fun!

We have 2 kids, who will be 10 and 14 at the time of the cruise. We really want a balcony for ourselves. I think we will book a balcony and an interior across the hall for the kids. The kids will most likely be in our room when not in the kids club, and we will use the interior as a place for them to sleep, wash up, and store their stuff! Our kids have cruised twice and I think they can handle it. YMMV. Obviously the 2 yr old would bunk with you. Yes, connecting cabins, if you can afford it, would be awesome!

a balcony for you and your honey with the 2 year old.. (you need the balcony to have someplace to escape while baby is sleeping

On carnival they will accept the 2 year old in the camps (provided that he is already 2 by the day of sailing) they change diapers that you provide

the other kids can be booked in an inside cabin across the hall from you.

Inside cabins are very dark 24 hours a day-- so let the kids know that you want them up and at em by a certain time or they will sleep whole days away.

We did our family of four in a balcony and while crowded it was fine for sleeping. We just had to be smart about getting ready in morning and for night out. But if can afford two cabins go for it.

cant put 6 in a balcony cabin-- sheesh that would be so tight.

we did 5 in an inside cabin for our first time-- had a great time and here we are on # 26 Not putting us all in one cabin again because it is "cheaper" to get the two cabins.
