Can you purchase Cheers on board 2nd day out of Florida? CCL website seems to suggest you have to purchase for the entire cruise, but see some conflicting posts saying you can buy day two, but that may just be TX and NY...

Your best bet is to contact Carnival's customer service number for clarification and request they email you the definitive answer. Without proof of the "deal" struck land-side, on board accountants may have a different interpretation.

Our experience has been that if you wait until day 2 to purchase Cheers, unless leaving from TX or NY, you still pay the same amount as if you purchased it on board the first day. The program will be backdated to embarkation day and the price and auto-grats from any drink included in the package will be refunded.

Others will tell you they have waited and the package price charged out at one less day and no adjustments made to any drinks ordered before the purchase of the program.

At this time the on board price is $5 more per passenger per day than the pre-boarding purchase price through the online FunShop.

For US departures sales tax on the whole beverage package is not longer collected, instead the ship will charge sales tax on a per drink basis while in US waters. For select European sailings the EU VAT fee could be collected on the entire package.

You can purchase on day 2 but any drinks you bought the previous day will not be included and you will be billed full price for those and Cheers will be prorated based upon the number of days left. What they mean by "must be purchased for the entire cruise" is that you can't only buy for a day or pick and choose which days you want. This is from the Bartenders on Vista in March.

This would be a better deal if they do not consider debarkation day into the number of days, which they do not when trying to pre purchase online. Given that my particular cruise does not leave until 6 PM and we could drink plenty before getting onboard, it would be worth it to shave off the $100+ by not paying for the embarkation day.

Although if you purchase ahead of time it's $5pp per day cheaper so I think it about works out considering if you want to have a few the first day. Most people are onboard between Noon-2pm so there plenty of opportunity to get your money's worth.

There is plenty of time to drink on board before 6p.m.

Sailing. Embarkation day just board as early as possible and start enjoying the Cheers package.

Even though your cruise leaves at 6 pm you must be aboard by 4:30, and depending on the port you maybe able to board as early as 11:30 am. Plenty of time to get your money's worth from Cheers, unless you are only drinking beers.

In that case getting Cheers is not very cost effective, as Cheers will force you to order only 1 included beer at a time per card, if you want more such as an ice bucket's worth you will pay for any extra at the listed bar price instead of the discount bucket price. Bar service tap beers start at $4.50 per glass and bottles as low as $4.95 so right there without the bucket discount (of $2 off 4 mix-n-match) you would need 10-11 beers daily (per-boarding price, 11-13 on board pricing) to make Cheers pay off. Easily done on seadays but harder to justify on port days where you might be spending 6-10 hours on shore.

Where Cheers really shines it savings light is for martini drinkers, especially the ones from the Alchemy Bar which tend to start at $11.95 per glass. At those prices only 5 glasses are needed to equal out to even the the higher per day on board purchase of Cheers.

Another thing if you usually qualify for the DOU card from the casino it does not add to the Cheers limit the way it used to. Now both programs are merged in the on board computers so the 15 alcohol drink cap is firm.
