Marco Polo (operated by Cruise & Maritime Voyages).

A freak wave hit the cruise ship today, while it was in the English Channel, near the end of a 42 night voyage.

An 85-year-old male passenger was killed and a woman passenger in her 70's were airlifted off the ship.

Water crashed through a window injuring a number of the 735 passengers.

its terrible news - but a freak storm- the pictures of which look horrific, and thousands are still flooded in the south of England.

However, I don't believe the ship was poorly maintained as stated - it flew through the safety inspection before departing on its next cruise.

Saying lots of prayers for the wife - it cannot be easy for her. its incredible how strong waves can be in stormy conditions.

Oceana was due to leave Southampton on that day, but was kept in port overnight. One wonders if the ship should have sheltered in port in Northen France as the storm was well forcast.

I aggree it is sad for the widow and also other people who were injured - there were a lot from what has been in the news.
