River levels in Europe

As there are questions on river levels in Europe popping up every now and then (especially due to last seaons drought), I did some reseach on the topic. I hope this will bring the quality of the discussions on this great board to a higher level and spares us some time to parrot again and again why rivers levels are hard to predict.

Read why a long term forcast for next season is impossibe. Well, if you want to try, you'll find the watersheds of all european rivers and seasonal issues here: http://www.rivercruiseinfo.com/content/hydrology-and-european-watersheds

Here is an overview to all german river stretches: The Danube, Elbe, Main, Moselle and Rhine. German authorities provide a 30 days graph (in centimeters), all I did was to put them in the right order and to add important cities and river confluences. http://www.rivercruiseinfo.com/content/river-levels

For non german river stretches of Elbe, Danube, Seine, Rhone, Saone or the waterways in Belgium and the Netherlands, read here: http://www.rivercruiseinfo.com/content/list-waterlevels-europe

If I missed something important, please leave a comment and I will add the information asap.

Ingo,

Actually knowing the current water levels is sort of useless as long as you don´t know the bridge clearances of each bridge or the minimum amount of water you need to get over a certain point.

For the German part of the Danube river I prefer (and the Bavarian part of the Main river)

http://www.hnd.bayern.de for high water warnings

http://www.nid.bayern.de for low water warnings

I also highly suggest http://www.elwis.de for water levels and for lock closures or any other kind of closures.
