I will be going on Celebrity Solstice to Alaska and was wondering if they would let my 14 year old son into the Solarium because we will be in the penthouse suite... its just us and him so its not like he would be disturbing anyone plus he is very mature otherwise:)

Thanks!

It doesn't matter how mature you think he is, Celebrity is strict on the age allowed in the Solarium. It was built for an adult relaxation area.

PLEASE, put a more specific title in the box other than "Celebrity". People see numerous threads started by you, all with the same title, and they think you're asking the same question over and over.

BTW, I want to add that it makes absolutely no difference if you're in the PH or an inside cabin on deck 2. The rules are the rules for everyone regardless if you're in the PH or not. While the PH does have perks, when it comes to things like the Solarium or casino, or the shows or whatever, Celebrity does not bend the rules for suite passengers and they really treat ALL passengers equally. And, we've been in the PH at least 20 times on Celebrity, so I do have experience in these issues.

First of all... CUT ME SOME SLACK!!! This is my first time using this website and was trying to fix the problem by putting it on the Celebrity board instead of general questions and then didn't realize that the title meant so much!!!

Second... kitty9 (Darcie) I don't really appreciate the way its sounds like you answered me, I was merely asking a simple question and didn't mean to offend anyone that I am better for traveling in the PH. Just trying to get a response from someone that's willing and happy to help:)

I think the thing is, that in most of your posts, you seem to emphasize that you're in the PH, and that being in that suite might make anyone in that suite feel they're entitled to more consideration. For example, in this thread you did ask if your 14 year old would be allowed in the Solarium because you're in the Penthouse. Perhaps you didn't mean for it to appear that way, being a new poster, but that's how it comes off.

And believe me, you're not the first new person to be advised to put cruise line specific questions on the board for that line. Many, many people have been told that because, truthfully, it is the best place to get the best advice. So, it's not only you who've been told to go to the cruise line's board here on Cruise Critic.

Now, to answer you on this question, no, Celebrity does not allow 14 year olds into the Solarium, and as Kitty said, the rule has no basis on what cabin you're in. My husband and I prefer the Solarium and spend a lot of time there and we've seen security approach parents to remove their kids from the area. The only time the Captain might allow kids in there is if there is inclement weather, and even then, it's only for a short period of time during the day.

Not to worry, you'll get the hang of posting here. And remember, when writing on an Internet forum, it's impossible to determine intent. What you might see as someone being rude was most likely not the intent of the post's author, but just how they write their response. Like I said up thread, you probably don't intend to come off sounding like you're expecting special treatment by being in the Penthouse, but to some, it might appear that way.

Celebrity is pretty strict with their rules but there are exceptions. We took our 17 year old on our last Celebrity cruise and he was 1 week shy of his 18th birthday so technically he was breaking the rules for the Solarium. Of course no-one asked see his ID, so if your son looks a lot older than 14 he might be OK.

Are you locked into this Celebrity cruise or could you switch lines. NCL has their Haven suites with a private suites only pool on some of their ships . I'm not sure if there is an age restriction but it might be something to look into.

Best of Luck.

  • 2 weeks later...

Gotta love people who think the rules apply to everyone but them because they are "special". We love Celebrity because there are few kids and teeny boppers. We use the solarium for the same reason. If I did take children on board, we would expect to follow the rules just like everybody else.
