Which terminal are you arriving at?

There's M &S simply food in Terminals 2,3 and 5 after arrivals.

There's also Duty free in arrivals.

Have a look around Heathrow's website.

Or buy something at the port....Southampton?

Cheers

If you are booking a car to get to Southampton, just ask the driver to stop at a supermarket on the way. You will get more choice for less cost. Duty free means nothing.

OP asked for somewhere in the airport.M&S is an option(I know it's not 'duty free') I am also aware that duty free means nothing. I was just trying to give the OP options, including Southampton.

We're taking the Princess transfer to Southampton so stopping along the way isn't an option. Unless there is something near the cruise terminal....

You need Mr John Bull with his local knowledge of 'purchasing opportunities' and maps. There are areas near the port, no doubt busy with fellow cruisers.

He should be along in a mo'

No John ,sorry but plenty of "Bull" I have tried to post a map but it is so small is is maybe useless - The red lines are where cruise ships usually dock

OP can do it himself just go to googlemaps southampton then ask it to find ASDA - You need to find where your ship is docked then seek directions to ASDA.( Walmart owned) There are other stores nearby it is a shopping area and about twenty minutes walk

** yes the pic quality is dire - I dont know why they even bother having attachments of 19.5kb

Sorry I dont have time to mess about with sending it offsite and then loading it.

I'd pick them up in the airport if you're doing the ship's transfer. There's a ton of alcohol (surprisingly nice selection) so I'm assuming there's a decent selection of wine in Terminal 5. They'll box it up for you too but there may be a cost for that since they've been charging for bags there for at least 5 years now. Here's a link to the airport shops but you'll need to know your terminal: http://www.heathrow.com/shops-and-restaurants

You rang, m'lud / m'lady ?

I can confirm that ships' transfers are non-stop, they go direct from airport to pier.

Princess use two berths, find yours from this schedule.

http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/live_information/shipping_movements_and_cruise_ship_schedule/cruise_ship_schedule/

If it's Mayflower cruise terminal (berth 105/6) it's a level 20 minute walk to Majestic Wines, opposite the rail station. And 20 minutes back.

(Majestic used to have a 6-bottle minimum but now there's no minimum.)

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.9066248,-1.4135286,3a,75y,133.62h,94.37t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1sZBoVakVoNppGqjTs059edg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i39

You could smile sweetly at the transfer driver, stay on the bus at the cruise terminal & get him to drop you near Majestic on his way back to his depot.

If it's Ocean Terminal (berth 46), the nearest is the Tesco Express convenience store in Ocean Village, about a 15 min walk. And 15 mins back.

Nothing like the range of Majestic, but a decent choice of wines.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@50.8965171,-1.3930791,3a,75y,15.08h,82.34t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1sLV7Z6T6zeCJt0aAtgxsW3g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i39

Again, a sweet smile might get you at least back to the dock gate.

Bear in mind you'll have your hand-luggage.

Heathrow's not my territory, but I'm fairly certain that M&S sell wines. Shops in T's 2,3 and 5.

A lot simpler than hiking at the docks.

The charge for bags, 5pence, is a government levy to encourage people to re-use plastic bags. It's not a charge by the shops. Cardboard bottle carriers, usually for 4 or 6 bottles, are free.

Hello,

Sorry for the slight diversion, but could you please advise if this is the same for Gatwick airport for duty-free store purchases upon arrival as well, and applies for spirits and champagnes as well as wines?

We are arriving into Gatwick and will not be taking a ship's transfer so have some flexibility to buy at Gatwick or in Southampton. The prices in Southampton we would be comparing against would be here (noting that some items are on sale off and on):

http://lgws.worlddutyfree.com/lgws_en/champagne.html

http://lgws.worlddutyfree.com/lgws_en/spirits-liqueurs.html

Is it better to buy spirits and champagne on arrival at Gatwick or is it better to wait until Southampton like it is for wine?

Well,Gatwick has M and S Simply Food in both North and South terminals

http://www.gatwickairport.com/at-the-airport/shopping-eating/shops/marks-and-spencer/

If you are staying overnight in Southampton before your cruise, then there will be more choice in the various supermarkets and off-licences (alcohol stores). The choice is yours.

Being 'local' I'd probably go to my favourite supermarket.

Too much choice. :)

There's no duty-free on arrival at Gatwick.

That "World Duty Free" price-list refers to their huge area in Departures, between security & the departures lounge.

They do have a small shop in Arrivals (South terminal, not sure if there's also one in North terminal), after baggage reclaim & customs. But despite their name, that little shop is not duty-free & the prices on that website don't apply.

This from http://www.gatwick-airport-guide.co.uk/shopping.html

(The highlighting is mine - you can probably understand why.;))

"International travellers arriving at Gatwick can now shop at the World Duty Free Arrivals Store, which offers a selection of goods that passengers normally only see on their departure, sold at tax free prices.

The range of items available include fragrances, cosmetics, confectionery and electrical goods. There is also a wide range of duty paid spirits, wines, champagne and beers, together with tobacco at duty paid prices".

But some folk are fooled into thinking that since its at an airport the prices must be duty-free.

It also has a poor range (its a small shop).

Best bet is to buy duty-free champagne & liquor (spirits) at your departure airport, or sometimes cheaper to pre-order from your airline. Some folk don't like carrying bottles for fear of breakage, but there's no restriction on carrying onto the aircraft liquids that you've purchased after security.

Here's the UK duty-free customs limit.

https://www.gov.uk/duty-free-goods/arrivals-from-outside-the-eu

(Broadly, two of you can bring in a litre bottle of spirits & three bottles of champagne. Plus eight litres of wine to wet your whistle between airport and ship ;p)

Or there are plenty of shops in Southampton. Best selection of champagnes & wines will be at Majestic (Western Esplanade, opposite rail station), their prices are about average (note that the headlined per bottle prices are for a minimum purchase of 6). https://www.majestic.co.uk/

Best prices will be at Asda, Portland Terrace. https://groceries.asda.com/aisle/spirits-pre-mixed-drinks/spirits/910000975445

The arrivals shops do have only a small range, but if the item is stocked in the arrivals shop then the price should be the same as the price you'd pay for the same product in the departures shops.

There is definitely an arrivals shop in the North Terminal. I have a vivid recollection of making a substantial purchase there once. It was about 7 or 8 dozen bottles of champagne; I cleaned them out. As it's a tax-paid duty-paid shop, there is no limit on how much you can buy. And if you can get it in the arrivals shop at the special offer promotional price that was in the departures shops ...

Guess this is all pretty much answered but whilst doing something else found this useful link

which pinpoints the berths on mayflower dock and shows where the dock exit (gate) is

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1yBc4JO-yh7ZCpUqxgg0hMw_LlJk&hl=en_US&ll=50.903709259884884%2C-1.419526757348649&z=15

and here is another for the berths at Dock Gate 4
