scuba_ninja Posted August 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2017 My cruise gets back to port on NYE, so the wife and I decided to spend a few extra days in NOLA and have some fun. I'm sure there's plenty a wild party to be had in town, but I'm looking for something more low key. Is it like NY where restaurants are already booked for NYE parties months in advance? Or is everything shut down in the city and we'll be walking around with completely empty streets on Jan 1? I found this http://www.neworleansonline.com/neworleans/seasonal/newyears.html but it's not exactly chock full of info. Any insight or suggestions is appreciated. jgmpuma Posted August 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2017 It is a great party, regardless of how you decide to celebrate it. Bourbon Street will be packed, as usual. The rest of the Quarter, especially around Jackson Square with its live music, will be crowded, but you can still move around. There is a Time Squire-like drop of a Mardi Gras baby at Jax Brewery (it is no longer a brewery) and fireworks along the river. All the restaurants will be open, but book reservations as soon as they are accepted, usually late Fall. some have fixed-price menus, others do not. The music clubs will be rocking. You can see a list of performers a week or so ahead of time here: http://www.wwoz.org More restaurant info can be found here: http://www.nomenu.com The party will still be going on when the sun comes up on 1/2/19. nolatravelgirl Posted August 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2017 Well it certainly won't be dead as the Sugar Bowl is on New Year's Day so there will be plenty of folks cheering on their team in town. I would book a room ASAP.
scuba_ninja Posted August 11, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted August 11, 2017 Thanks for the info! I'm super excited! Actually scored a great room already! We actually booked the post cruise rooms (and our flights) before we put our cruise deposit down. Only 135 days left!
