LMF422 Posted September 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Does anyone have any experience with ADA Accessibility in Bermuda? Bermuda doesn't have the ADA laws that the U.S. does. We are sailing on the Carnival Splendor in October from Norfolk, VA to Bermuda with three full days in port. Our daughter-in-law will be on her first cruise, but uses a scooter part of the time along with a cane due to MD. Cruising has been her wish for a long time. Her general health is excellent but depends on the help of her scooter and/or cane to get around. We have been told that the buses have no accessibility and our DIL is afraid that she is going to miss out on the fun that the rest of the family will be having. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
njhorseman Posted September 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Bermuda is not very handicapped friendly. However, you can drive (ride) a mobility scooter onto the Blue Route ferries that run between Dockyard and Hamilton.
Rare Got2Cruise Posted September 10, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Use the taxis. If the scooter folds up you can put it in the trunk. My 85 yo Aunt brought her walker to Horseshoe Bay. It's tricky getting to the water but there are paths up to the sand. Also the dockyard area is flat and paved she should be able to use her scooter to go over to the shopping and snorkel park.
