Sat and Interactive TV on the Wind

I just returned from back to back cruises on the Wind from Rome December 8th to Barcelona and Barcelona Dec 15th to Ft. Lauderdale.

First the TVs were not interactive like that on other ships. Second the 3 movies daily were terrible and were shown ever two hours. Third the selection of movies was terrible and keeping in mind that the first leg of the cruise was only 7 days so one puts up with what is available, BUT the same movies for the next 17 days was very poor.

Yes they have DVDs in each suite and yes they have lots of titles to choose from, BUT the selection has not been updated in I would say at least 6 months.

One does have a selection of titles on laptops or other internet connected viewers, but Silversea is advertising interactive TVs.

I would also like to mention that the Sat channels left lots to be desired. On the first leg we had CNN, BBC and CNBC. There was also a world news channel in different languages on I believe 6 channels.

On the second leg which was a transatlantic crossing we had I believe 6 days without any news channels and I was told that there was no coverage. I've taken other transatlantic cruises and never had the problem. When we arrived in Puerto Rico we then received a news channel from Japan and one from France plus 2 ESPN channels. When questioned the crew responded that they could not receive other channels.

Silversea has some explaining to do in my opinion.

Yikes, thats not good!

I was told the Wind was in for refurbishment and one of the things it was getting done, was an Interactive TV with lots of channels and video on demand.

This is pretty basic stuff these days!

Not something I will lose sleep over as I doubt the TV would be used much apart from background noise.

Hopefully the internet upgrade is better and useable now without the continual dropouts.... especially as the internet is not a chargeable service (I think and hope!) on my next sailing.

The ship is wired up for the new Interactive TV but the contract is not in place yet, so it's still the old system. The internet is still 60 mins per day, available as a figure for the voyage upfront, but still slow and prone the drop out problems, particularly with iPads. Not sure when the upgrade will be completed.

Ah ok. Seems a bit silly they've not sorted the contract detail out, though as I said, I've more enjoyable things for me to be doing than watching TV. Would have been good to have news available though.

And a big shame the internet isn't sorted. I know earlier in the year our med cruise was sold as 60 mins per day, but the next I thought it was unlimited as it says "free wifi throughout the ship". That kinda implies no charges for using the internet and did seem to fall inside the ships upgrade as the reason to think that.

Strangely though, 1200 minutes were loaded onto our account last time.... not just one, but both of us. We both had some stacks left at the end, though I did have my phone with me that had 20gb of usable data, so it was never needed in port.

Fingers crossed. 100 days to go they manage to speed things up and make it faster. I'll bot have use of my phone for data on this trip.

If you check the small print it says free internet is limited to 60mpd for Vistas and Verandas, and it is per person not just for the suite.

TBF, that should be more than enough. We thought they'd made a mistake when we were both able to log in and get 1200 minutes.

Wished you didn't need to log out though. So easy to get distracted and forget.

First the fact that they had issued a press release regarding the upgrade and while on board didn't mention anything to the passengers is wrong. Second I was on board 24 nights and the second cruise was a transatlantic crossing. I am a night owl and during the afternoon it would have been nice to have news channels as well as on demand movies which I believe are part of the charges.
