QM2 Deck plan questions

Looking at the QM2 deck plans on Cunard's web site has generated a few questions.

1. I'll start with what brought me to the deck plans to begin with. I was looking for the Todd English Restaurant, and found two of them. One on deck 8 and one on deck 2. Are these substantially the same, is one a lunch only venue, or which one do most of you prefer?

2. Similiar question as to the Library. I've heard it is the largest at sea, but I see two of them. One spread across decks 2 & 3 and another on deck 8. How are they different, by subject, one more a lounge, or what?

3. A couple venues that look like restauarnts I don't see described at all on Cunard's web page. Cafe Carinthia on deck 2 and the rather large Winter Garden room on deck 7. Are these special purpose rooms used only occassionally?

4. Deck two - It looks like from the deck plan the the deck is divided at the casino, so that you can't walk aft from the casino to say the Queen's Lounge or the Britannia. Is this correct?

5. Lastly I don't find any description for the Lookout Room on deck 13? Is it merely a small observation room as the name suggest?

Hi Ken,

A couple of things make me think you're looking at two different sets of deck plans (This may be a fault on the web site, or a mistake on your part.)

1. Todd English is on deck 8 on QM2 and Deck 2 on Queen Victoria.

2. The Library is on Deck 8 on QM2 and Decks 2&3 on Queen Victoria.

3. Cafe Carinthia is only on Queen Victoria, on Deck 2. The Wintergarden is on Deck 7 on QM2. It is a much underused room and one of the most criticised. It's where they hold the art auctions and such.

4. This could apply to either set of plans. On QM2 you can access the Britannia Restaurant and you use Deck 3L to go aft to Queens Room and G32.

On Queen Victoria, I agree it looks like a solid bulkhead across the ship. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. For info: There is no such room as the Queens Lounge. There is the Queens Room, and there is the Queens Grill Lounge. Two different rooms. Confusing isn't it?

5. The Lookout, on QM2 Deck 13, isn't a room at all. Its just an area of deck above the bridge where, if you're tall enough, you can look forward through a plexiglass screen.

Hope some of this helps. Colin.

Looks like your questions are the result of a confusion of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria deck plans. For example, the QM2 library is forward on Deck 8, the two storey QV library is midships and will have a spiral staircase between its Deck 2 and Deck 3 floors. Cafe Carinthia will be on the QV. The QM2 has corridors called Deck 3L that let you walk around, rather than through, the Britannia Restaurant to get to the Queens Room and the nightclub. The Winter Garden on the QM2 is used for auctions and recitals, otherwise it's just another lovely large space to enjoy. QV will have a Winter Garden also.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. I suspected it might be some type of mix up, but I'm always surprised companies make that type of mistake. I downloaded a pdf of the deck plans from Cunard's own site and got a four page pdf showing the commingled decks.

Does anyone know of a site that has accurate QM2 deck plans? If it is an on-line TA's site we can't mention, give me a hint.

The last 3 pages of the Deck Plan are correct for the QM2 - just ignore the first page which is Decks 1 - 4 of the QV:

Thanks for the links. I'm glad to see my cabin is where I thought it was:)

One last question, it looks like the Todd English restaurant looks out over the pool area and visa versa, the pool looks into the Todd English area. Do people dining find that distracting?

Hi,

I only dined there in the evening so I can't speak for lunchtime. However my table was next to the glass and it seemed to me to be tinted. I may be wrong. However, although I could see people out on deck, this did not detract from a superb meal. You must remember that the area outside of the (deck 8) Todd English is not a walkway around the ship in the way that the deck 7 promenade is. On deck 7 everyone passes right alongside the windows of both Grill restaurants!

There are curtains in the restaurant that defuse your view of the pool.

Due to a bad design however, in order to reach that pool deck behind the Restaurant you must go thru the restaurant or down the back stairs from the deck above.

I've often read of the supposed design fault regarding access to the Deck 8 pool area on QM2. I accept that wheelchair access (except through Todd English) is impossible.

However, there is interior access to deck 8 via a wide staircase that leads from the aft end of deck 7's "Kings Court" (outside the Princess Grill Restaurant's entrance) directly to deck 8's terrace and pool. This means that the "Lido" style food court is but a few steps from the pool area. Hardly a hardship or a design fault. I admit that this staircase is badly marked on deck plans, but I found this access easily and used it frequently.

Yes, I always thought that the promenade around both grills was a not-too-well-thought-out design. Even more amusing is that the entrance to the grills is opposite King's Court where people wander in and out from deck 8, often in shorts & bathing suits. It's a funny contrast to see someone in that kind of attire juxtaposed against others making their grand entraces into the grills in evening attire.

We had lunch at Todd English during the October cruise to Canada/New England. Our seats at the window gave us great view of a gentleman changing from his sweatsuit into brief swim trunks from under a beach towel! He never looked up at the windows, but it was hard for us not to watch. The event sure gave us something to talk about the rest of the cruise. The "entertainment" not withstandng, the meal was outstanding!

W got used to seeing that on our very first cruise on the Cunard Crown Jewel. There was a rather largeerman contigent on board, and it seems that family vacations au naturel are popular in Germany. In some cultures people are not as uptight about their bodies, and somewhat matter-of-fact. Do what you have to do and be done with it, I guess is the attitude. Though I think I would draw the line somewhere! And I'm not sure I would want to change in front of a restaurant window! Maybe he was a - what do you call those guys who like to be seen- the opposite of a voyeur?

Or maybe he really DID think he was all that and that people should be grateful that he let them have a glimpse of what he was sure everyone wanted! - or under the towel, thought no one would notice!

Karie.

who might cause massive cases of "MAN OVERBOARD" were she to undress on deck! It would look like rats deserting a sinking ship! Jumping from the rigging, the yardarms, the siderails and the fo'castle! <G>

Cruisin Kathy

In defence of the gentleman who was "changing from his sweatsuit to brief swim trunks from under a beach towel" He was obviously European (Americans are apt to wear large, baggy swim trunks) and this way of getting out of your clothes and into your swimsuit (by men, women and children) can be seen everywhere on European beaches - how else would you get from a wet, sandy swimsuit into your clothes to return home? Now, without the towel would have really been cause for merriment!
