Cancelling/Changing (Older) On Board Booking

Recommended Posts

Last year we did an on board booking and chose the instant OBC offer. The deposit was only $200 and we were given $200 OBC for 11 night balcony. There are the following notes on our reservation:

  • THE DEPOSIT REQUIRED FOR YOUR NEXTCRUISE BOOKING IS NONREFUNDABLE IF YOU CHOOSE THE INSTANT ONBOARD CREDIT OPTION
  • For Guests who choose the Instant Onboard Credit offer, downgrades to your NEXTCRUISE BOOKING will result in an additional charge of between $50 to $500 on your booking and in the loss of your special promotional offer. Downgrades include booking a shorter duration cruise or booking a lower class of staterooms.

If we were to cancel this cruise, I understand the $200 deposit is lost. Does that cancel out the OBC, or would it be lose the $200 deposit and have to pay $200? If the later, how exactly would that work? Would we have to pay the $200 to finalize the cancellation? The T&C seem to specify changing the cruise but not cancelling outright.

If you cancel, you're all done. No refunds, no giving back OBC.

Why not just move it to a date in the future?

We might do that as well. Just crunching the numbers now after a budget change. Ideally we'd like to keep the sailing we have, but there are other cruises at the same time frame that are less than half the price of the one we are booked on. The main reason to cancel (and I'm not sure if it's even necessary) is that if we do change sailings we'd want to have it done through our TA. Can't transfer the existing sailing since it's more than 60 days after booking, and not 100% sure how that works if we change sail dates vs just cancelling and having our TA do the new booking.
