uvasag Posted February 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2017 I searched for info and found some real old posts so asking again. Do we have any cell phone coverage on the ship thru the island towers or should I switch it off like on other cruise ships ?

In Hawaii you should be able to get signals while in port or near port.
uvasag Posted February 15, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted February 15, 2017 I'm asking when I'm on the ship sailing between islands. Are the islands close enough that we can get coverage on the ship or should I turn off the phone so as not to incur roaming charges
CruiserBruce Posted February 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2017 I would leave it off until docked. Sailing will be in evening and overnight anyway.

chengkp75 Posted February 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Thank you It depends on what ship you are on. Most ships, will turn their cell tower on within minutes of leaving the dock, and regardless of whether there is a shore tower nearby or not, the ship's tower is closer, and unless you set "no roaming" it will connect to the ship's tower. NCL's Pride of America does not have a cell tower, so you could leave roaming on, but while at sea you might not get a signal.
uvasag Posted February 15, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Thank you all. I'll do what Bruce suggested. Turn it off when the ship leaves shore.
