Casino on HAL

HAL casinos (at least on the last two ships I was on) is run by 21 Century. Playing machines, you use your key card as a slot card to track your play. I suppose on table games you let the dealer know who you are. The purpose is for comps or future cruise benefits.

On our last cruise, we reached 1000 points, which get you $10 (whee!) but some super cruise discounts a few months later. We couldn't sail again that soon but sailed last week on "casino rate" which wasn't fantastic but our TA couldn't beat it.

If you play video poker, the best games are Jacks or Better, 6-5, which means a likely 5% loss if you play perfect strategy. Blackjack tables at $10 or a modified game at $6.

There are free drink coupons to be had by players. Only if you ask, of course. These have an $8 value. One way to break even is to buy $30 of scratch offs for $25 and get two drink coupons. Scratch offs pay about 50%, so the math works. Casino is closed in ports. Good luck

As you likely already know, those payouts are awful. I can't even imagine the payouts on slots? 75%? 8-5 is readily available here, even in some gas stations. Since Vegas has been going a different way, I now go to Reno to gamble for some of the few remaining 9-6'ers.

The HAL casinos are operated by "Club 21", which is the unique HAL branch of corporate CCL's Ocean Players Club. I think Century (not 21 Century) operates the casinos on Oceania, but I may be wrong about that.

On my last HAL cruise 12-2015 Blackjack paid 6-5 not the traditional 3-2.:( Avoid these payout like the plague.

No, there are two blackjack tables on each HAL ship -- might even be more on the big ships, but I've only sailed S-class and R-class. The 6-5 has a lower minimum (think it's $6 but I've never played a 6-5 on land or at sea). There is ALWAYS a normal 3-2 table with a $10 minimum during the day, which may go to $25 at night if the table is busy.
