Excursion or on your own

Salgrada Familia is 1st on the list as a must see. Are you comfortable finding your way around on a metro?

If not there are Hop on Hop Off that can be used to orient yourself.

From the port there is a bus service for a few euro to take you to very near the start of Las Ramblas. You can walk up there and there are a few places/districts to see.

On Las Ramblas there are 3 metro stops Drassanes, Liceu and Pl. Catalunya.

Pl. Catalunya is a major hub for bus and metro and Hoho.

If you use the metro you can get a T10 ticket approx 10€/10 journeys and can be shared with others.

Salgrada Familia has a metro stop, you need to change lines but you can get there and back easily for 2€ per person.

Google TomsPortGuides where you can read/download a pdf document to plan.

Barcelona MUST be done on your own; it is one of the most DIY friendly ports I know. Don't miss the Gothic Quarter, Opera House (pre-book your tour), Cathedral (not the Sagrada Familia which is a Basilica not a Cathedral), Parc Guell and La Boqueria market - all easily accessible from the port.

Have a wonderful trip.

It's not often I disagree with your recommendations, but La Boqueria is so commercialised and expensive these days I was hugely disappointed last time I was there.

I agree that it has become more of a tourist attraction than a locals market but still think it is well worth seeing for a first time visitor to Barcelona for the colours, different varieties and photo opportunities. Apart from the odd glass of Cava at one of the market bars we have never actually bought anything there.

I used to know Barcelona very well years ago and went into the market frequently. Just over a year ago my partner and I spent 4 days there which we very much enjoyed. I took him into the market, but it had changed into a tourist attraction. It was extremely crowded and full of oriental people with selfie sticks.

I was disappointed with La Boqueria as I didn't see any Catalan ladies doing their daily shop. Probably too expensive for them. However thought Barcelona had changed very much for the better.
