We will be staying at the Sheraton and wondering when can we board Jewel of the Seas? Being we will most likely checking out around 10-11am. Guessing that will be check out time for the hotel. Can we go to the ship and board then?

Hopefully maybe go to our rooms to at least drop off our luggage. :p

Boarding will likely start around 11:00am...however cabins won't be ready until 1:30-2:00pm usually and you'll have no access to them until then...So any carryons you'll have with you and not checked in as luggage at the pier will have to be kept with you until then.

We just recently stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan (great location and hotel) pre-cruise for our Adventure sailing and yes check out time is 11:00am.

We are staying at the Sheraton Old San Juan pre cruise. Will the Adventure of the Seas be docked across the street from the hotel at one of the piers or will it be docked at the Pan American pier? If its docked at the Pan American Pier how much is the taxi to the pier? Do you remember who handles security when your carryon is screened prior to boarding. Is it TSA or is it RCCL personnel. Is their additional screening where you enter the ship for the first time? We were thinking of bringing bottled water in our carry ons on board.

All RCI ships embark/disembark at the Pan America pier...they only port at the Old Town pier on day stops.

Taxi from the Old Town Sheraton to the pier will be approx $18.00 for two inc luggage.

You'll have no trouble boarding with your bottled water (we just recently took water and soda onboard with us).

In August I did a back to back on Adventure out of San Juan, based on my experience I suggest you get to the cruise port no earlier than 11:30 am.

The embarkation process in San Juan was by far the worst of any port I have sailed out of. I got to the port about 10:15 am. There were already at least 50 people waiting on line. In San Juan, unlike every other cruise port I have experienced, patrons do not enter the terminal until the disembarkation process is nearly complete. We waited outside in the humidity and heat (there was a roof above the wait line). Finally at 11 am, the process of passengers entering the terminal commenced. The single wait line, which now numbered between 150-200, was then split thereby allowing those who showed up later than the earliest arrivals (myself included) to enter prior than those who had waited longer.

Once inside the terminal and after the checking in process, it was obvious that this was a small terminal with cramped and limited seating. When the large overhead garage style door was rolled open (the entry way to the ship) there was a dash by more than a few cruisers to be the first ones on. It was a false alarm though:D and they were told to return to their seats. When it was rolled open the second time and passengers allowed through there was no protocol or organization...first ones who dashed through were first to board the ship. Boarding the ship started about 11:45 am and cabins were available at 2pm.

The following week, new cruisers did not board the ship until after noon. The disembarkation process was greatly behind schedule. Consecutive cruisers were scheduled to go through customs and reboard the ship at 11:15 am, it was just after noon when we disembarked and then embarked. As we were reboarding the ship, 3 cruisers (not consecutive cruisers) were being escorted down the gangway. They must have had a good hiding spot as well as a very late flight! The cruisers who were boarding the ship that day were finally allowed on...again after 12 noon.

I can say that when I disembarked for good after the second cruise, that process went better than the prior week, then again hard to imagine how it could have gone worse.:)
