Craps Newbie with questions

Hi all - I am learning Craps for my cruise next year (plenty of time to learn)! I have downloaded an app so I can play, but it doesn't explain anything :eek:.

Anyway, here are my questions (right now - I'm sure I'll have more):

1. What is the minimum on Carnival ships? What are the odds (1x)?

2. I'm thinking of starting out with $100 - is this enough to get me started?

3. I'm thinking I will play the Pass line with the minimum, and once a number is "on" playing the odds on the Pass line. Is this a good starting point for a beginner?

4. IF I decide to play the Come, once a number is rolled, and I am moved to that number, how exactly do I play the odds on it? I can't figure that out on my app.

5. Do I need to adjust my "odds" bet depending on which number is "On"?

Sorry if these are stupid questions - just trying to figure it all out. Especially as it relates to Carnival's rules.

1. Minimum is typically $5. Although sometimes they will go to $10. Odds have always been 2x.

2. On a $5 table, yes $100 can get you started. But craps is a game of ups and downs. So you may go through that quickly or you may make a lot of money on that $100

3. yes that is a good starting point. It keeps the game simple to understand. Once you get a feeling for what is going on you can start adding other bets such as place bets on numbers that aren't the point. Ex.. point is "5" place the 6 and 8 since aside from a 7, they are the most easily thrown numbers.

4. Once a point is established for your come bet.. in a casino you just put your odds chips down in the come box and the dealer will put it on you bet (they move your come bet into the point box for it.) Not all apps will let you do this.. but it should.. if it doesn't find a new app.

5. No you shouldn't if you are betting full odds. For a 5 and a 9 you need an even number for the odds so the dealers can pay you correctly. Since a 5 and a 9 pay 3 for 2 on the odds portion of the bet, if you don't have an even $ amount they can pay it fully. BUT if you always play double odds, you can't help but always have an even number on the odds bet. If you play on Royal Caribbean where they have a 1x odds bet, then yes you would have to worry about it.

Since many players on cruises are not experienced, the dealers at the table will tend to be helpful when it comes to these things. They will let you know if you need even odds or not (if you are not playing full 2x) and they will let you know what is needed for place numbers.. so don't worry about it too much.

On a cruise ship I'll normally watch the game for a while to get a feel on how good the shooters are in throwing the dice before I make any bets.

I like to say the odd numbers are even odds. Funny story. We took a tour of Pompeii, Italy a while ago with our own tour guide. Pointed out many unusual things. One of which was one of the things that people did there was play with dice. And in one place they found a pair of loaded dice. I didn't know I had any relatives there.

Also most cruises have lessons available. Check when you get aboard or ask someone who has been on your ship recently.

Stand next to the stickman or a dealer and ask questions. Every dealer I have ever played with on a cruise ship has been very friendly.

Stay away from the prop bets. They are a huge bankroll leak.
