Southampton disembarkation question

 Share

Recommended Posts

I have never disembarked at Southampton before and am wondering about clearing customs there. The Magnifica docks at 8:00 and I'm wondering if I would be able to catch the National Express from the coach station at 9:50. I wanted to go to Salsbury and there's only 1 bus per day.

I'm also not familiar with MSC procedures, Do they allow walk offs at 8:00?

Anyone know of any other economical way to get there? Less than $50us.

You should have no trouble making the 9.50 coach. MSC usually berth at City cruise terminal, less than 5 mins from the ship by taxi but other cruise terminals are no more than 10 mins by taxi. Taxis lined up at the terminals.
Customs is a walk-thru, you'll only be delayed if they give you a tug.
Unlikely to be a long line for immigration either, very different to airports.

An option is to take the train to Salisbury. A half-hourly service from Southampton central station (near the coach station & same taxi routine). Fare is about £10 pp, journey time 30 mins, no need to pre-book, buy at the station. Cash (sterling only) or card.

Choice between coach & train may depend on your precise destination/plans in Salisbury.
The coach station is in Millstream coach park.
The train station on S.Western Road,
Both are a 10-15 min walk or a bus or taxi ride from the centre, the coach station being marginally closer. Taxi ranks at both.
If you're planning to store luggage for the day (eg to visit Stonehenge) I don't think there's any left-luggage facility at the coach station, but there is at the Cat Tavern, by the rail station. And the rail station is served by the Stonehenge ho-ho.

Edit: You didn't deserve that, Kevin. You are now one insult in credit to both of us, to be used at any time in the future. :)
But Simon, on the other hand ...................... ;)

@JB. Saluted as we went through Romsey today on the train to Salisbury!
Took the Stonehenge bus at the station and very glad we bought the combo bus fare plus entrance ticket that avoided the long lines at the visitor,s center. We just walked right passed the line and got on the bus out to the Stones - amazing place....
