bamabobb Posted March 30, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2009 can anyone recommend a shop in Halifax where I can purchase a kilt? I'm sailing on the NCL Dawn in September and would love to bring home a Kilt, but if I can't bring it home, perhaps I can order it and have it shipped. anyone know of any shops near where the Dawn will drop me off? thanks! I bought both my nieces gorgeous kilts with matching sweaters at a place right on the pier next to the Sheraton casino. Don't know the name of it, though. Ephraim Posted March 31, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2009 Do you mean Casino Nova Scotia. That's at Upper Water right near the Barrington shops. I thought that the ships dock near Port 21 on Lower water. I think the Barrington shops are now called Scotia Square... but it's been a good few years since I've been to YHZ. Yes, I meant the Sheraton with the casino. Maybe the Barrington one is the same one I went to. I looked at the map for the one mentioned, though, and Mapquest made it look like the other side of the street. Viv
Putterdude Posted April 1, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2009 Its been a few years since I have been in Halifax but I think Barrington Square and Scotia Square are across the street from one antother. Maybe a Haligonian (sp?) could confirm this.

A low blow to be sure.:D But I have stayed at the Prince George Hotel when the pubs have let out and I don't think I have ever heard anything quite like it...even on Granville St. in Vancouver.;)
rickb Posted April 1, 2009 #9 Share Posted April 1, 2009 I can help with your questions. The casino used to be owned by Sheraton and at one point was located in the ballroom of the Sheraton hotel. Since then, a new building was constructed a few hundards yards farther down the harbour (away from the ship). Since then the casino has been sold and is now called Casino Nova Scotia. Yes, the Barrington Street shops and Scotia Square are located across the street from each other. The ships dock at Pier 21.
woodworker&knitter Posted April 2, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2009 Scotia Square is a small shopping mall connected to Barrington Square and the Chateau Halifax. The whole wharf area including the casino are all within walking distance. And besides just ask a Maritimer for directions and they will be more than happy to help you.

Never have I heard so many discussions about if it's legal to carry alcohol in the trunk of your car on a Sunday and pubs.
