Chase Sapphire and Humana HMO and GeoBlue

Cruise to Caribbean from FL

I think (although still not positive) that having my Chase Sapphire Preferred card coverage (cancellation/trip delay, etc) and Humana HMO (says emergency airlift and out of network charges only paid for medical) and GeoBlue to "fill in the blanks" is the best for us.

Still not totally confident about it though.

Would appreciate input.

Thanks

Certainly call the insurance companies and ask your questions. If they tell you that you do have some coverage, ask if you can see those rules/limits in writing. Sometimes you will be directed to another area on the web site that has the specific rules and coverage. Other times, the company rep may offer to e-mail you the policy info..or perhaps send it via snail mail. Just keep in mind that anything told to you over the phone...is not binding on an insurance company (similar to the USA Internal Revenue Service who says they are not bound by what they tell you over the phone). So, if you do not see it in writing, it may not be true :).

Medical Evac is one of the more interesting issues. In nearly all cases, you must first be admitted to a land-based hospital before evacuation is even possible. And most policies specify that the decision will be made by the attending physician and the insurance company! So just because you want to be evacuated, it does not mean it will happen. One Medical Evacuation Policy that does give more power to the patient is offered by Medjetassist.....but even their policies require hospitalization and agreement by the attending. What is nice about Medjetassist is that if you do qualify for evacuation, they will evacuate you to a hospital near your home (if its possible and reasonable). This is not always true with other policies.

So here is the basic rule for all insurance! READ THE POLICY.....including the definitions and so-called "fine print." Do not simply look at the short summary of benefits and assume this is all inclusive.
