Using Hamburg's public transport

Hi. We are sailing to Hamburg next month on QE, Hopefully this time we will see the 3Queens fireworks in Southampton - not just coloured rainclouds! Last time we landed in Hamburg we used the public transport system to get around, Waterbus, then (?) underground to the main Station then train to Airport. Problem is I cannot remember the details as I didn't take notes. Advice please.

Curious about the waterbus. Haven't seen it mentioned in anything I've been researching for upcoming trip in August.

Unfortunately the water of the river is very calm in August. November to April is much more fun with the waterbusses.

Thank you grayjay, this is just what I needed.

It depends on which cruise center.

The last 2 times we were on the QM2, it was the Hafencity, you will find the underground station within walking distance.

But the last time, in January, we were on the QE, it was the Cruise Center Altona. There's no underground nearby. But they arranged free shuttle buses to the city center, the stop was nearby the Rathaus (Town Hall).
