coloradocruise Posted September 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2014 When I was last in Nassau, our People-to-People rep took us to the mall. We saw a stand there and asked her what they were selling and she said "Guava Duff" and bought us some. OH MY GOODNESS!! Has no one else tried this true Bahama delicacy? She also took us to a roadside vendor who made fresh conch salad. It was wonderful too. It's great to get off the ship and try some local flavor! Rare CruisinCrow Posted September 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2014 We ate at the Fish Fry last weekend. I should have tried the guava duff! I was going to but I was full from the other food. We had an excellent fish sandwich, conch salad, rice and beans. Yum! Guess I'll have to save room for dessert next time. Shopgirl76 - there's a description of guava duff here: http://www.worldwidewebawards.net/Food/Bahamas.html

KristyM79 Posted September 21, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 21, 2014 It would be great if there were some food oriented shore excursion when docked in Nassau. I've only seen a tour of a chocolate shop. For those that have been there more than once, it would be a nice change of pace to sample guave duff, conch, rice and beans, fresh fish, etc.

Probably just as well because it was really hot the day we were there so it would have been hard to walk around in the heat. But maybe next time! bubba74 Posted September 22, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) There is one: http://trubahamianfoodtours.com/ I wanted to do this last time but they were already sold out. Probably just as well because it was really hot the day we were there so it would have been hard to walk around in the heat. But maybe next time! Although this tour is very popular, it doesn't include the basic Bahamian fare as mentioned above. You're better off going to the fish fry (oh Andros, for instance). Guava duff is a specialty, not on all menu's . You may have to ask around for some where that has it on the menu that day. Tru Bahamian tour does not. Twin brothers usually has quava duff, but it sells out quickly. http://twinbrothersbahamas.com/menu.aspx Edited September 22, 2014 by bubba74

Rare CruisinCrow Posted September 27, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 27, 2014 Is Twin Brothers really good? Sent from my SGH-M919 using Forums mobile app I thought it was good but I liked Goldies better. We'll probably go back to Goldies next time. For the people looking for guava duff, they had it at John Watling's distillery.
