British isle shore excursions

Recommended Posts

Odyssey has a great tour of the Giant's Causeway out of Belfast.

We liked the HoHo bus in Dublin.

Liverpool, we took a great bus tour of N. Wales.

For Guernsey, we did a nice bike tour of about half the island.

Le Harve, because of the distances, we did a great ship's excursion to Normandy, the WWII beaches, Bayeux Cathedral and Tapestry and more.

Cork, we took a private tour to Blarney Castle and Kindle. It was on e coach.

Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK -- We played golf at Close House, and booked our transfers with Blue Line Taxi online in advance -- there was a free shuttle from the pier and other taxis were readily available.

Edinburgh (Newhaven) -- We had a tour booked with Ultimate Scottish Tours for a day in St. Andrews, but our ship was unable to tender due to weather

Londonderry (Greencastle), Ireland -- We played golf at Ballyliffin, and booked our transfers with Foyle Taxi

Belfast, Ireland -- We had a full day tour with Paddy @ Belfast Tours

Dublin, Ireland -- We did the Guinness Connoisseur Taste Experience and Jameson Distillery. There was a free shuttle from the pier to Merrion Square near Trinity College.

The Guinness Connoisseur Experience was fantastic and not to be confused with the Guinness Experience. Ours was a 90 min. tasting in a private room which looked like an old-time pub with all kinds of memorabilia, and was limited to just 18 people at a time. Tickets should be purchased on-line well in advance.

Liverpool, UK -- We played golf at Royal Liverpool at Hoylake. Great experience. Taxis are readily available at the pier.

Cork, Ireland -- We did a tour with Munsterbus.ie to Blarney Castle and then to Kinsale.

Portland, UK -- We took the shuttle into Weymouth, which is a great fishing and resort beach town.

I am looking for shore excursion companies. I am interested in small group tours or private tour companies. Anybody have any suggestions? Would love your feedback.

August, 2014.

From London, we took International Friends tour bus to Stonehenge on the way to Southampton. Highly recommend.

Guernsey:

Private taxi tour of more than half the island with Silver Accredited Guide Steve Martin. Excellent.

Cork: (cruise critic group)

We had an 8 person van for an about Cork taxi tour. Cork, Blarney and Kinsale. Excellent.

Dublin:

HoHo Bus, but 2 cruise ships and a huge horse show and Dublin was packed with people. Hard to find bus seats, so we weren't able to see as much Dublin as we hoped.

So if I had it to do again, I would plan something else.

Belfast: (cruise critic group of 6)

Antrim Coast. Gorgeous. Giant's Causeway, Dunluce Castle and perfect lunch at Wee Cottage nearby, beautiful Game of Thrones beech trees, back to Belfast to see the Protestant/Catholic murals and sign the Peace Wall. Wow. Eye-opening. Fabulous day.

Glasgow: (cruise critic group)

15 passenger van with Gordon Ross of Great Scot Tours. Luss, Loch Lomond, Trossachs, Aberfoyle, Callander, Stirling Castle, on into Edinburgh for the Military Tattoo. Again, excellent.

Orkney:

Orkney Aspects. Small van tour of Stones of Stenness, Ring of Brodgar, Maes Howe and Norse inscriptions, Skara Brae, Scapa Flow, delightful lunch at Merkister Hotel, stop in Kirkwall to visit St. Magnus Cathedral and time for some Orkney ice cream. Another fabulous day.

Invergordon:

We were unable to dock because of high winds.

We were scheduled to tour with Wow Scotland tours and Gordon Pearson, but the very day that we missed our port, Gordon emailed to confirm our refund. I was totally impressed by that. Perhaps another cruise.

Edinburgh:

Andy and his black taxi picked us up at the ship, private morning tour of Arthur's Seat, St. Giles and Thistle Chapel, castle, and more. Several hours on our own, and Andy met us again at day's end to take us back to ship. Another great day!

LeHavre: We took the Princess tour of Normandy. Excellent. Book tours of Normandy early, whether ship tour or private tour. They fill quickly.

LOVED the BI cruise. Every single port. LOVED.
