NCL Epic Casino

Well, looks like this board has been dead for a few days, figured I would add to the posts......

I am sailing on the NCL Epic in March, and am curious on thoughts/tips/tricks for the casino. I mainly play video poker but mix in some slots as well. We don't spend any time at the tables, but if you have information on that as well, I'll take it. I have searched all of the historic stuff, mainly looking for a refresh or previously unreleased information. Thanks!

This board is always dead :( I was on the Epic a few years ago.....worst VP machines of any cruise or landbased casino! I heard the same from a friend who went on the Epic last year. If I were you I would play slots on the Epic.

One other follow up question if people don't mind. When I booked my CAS comp room, all adults in the cabin should get a drink card, correct?

Yes ever adult booked thru CAS will get a drink card. They will be in your cabin attached to the cards :)

There should be a CAS check in line at the pier as well.

Please come back and post how much you have won!

Good luck!

Will do. Last couple on NCL weren't so hot, cost of entertainment.....need to get my wife to play more, she won a $6k royal flush on Carnival back in the day......:)

Yes have her play!!! LOL

Also try the VP right outside the Chinese restuarant Called Cascades Bar they have a few VP machines that were pretty good.

Could you elaborate? In what way were they the worst?

I can tell you the best pay scale I found was 8/5 and that was on a $5 machine it was worse on the .25 and dollars, at the time they did not have any 9/6 JOB. I play mostly DBL DBL BONUS poker I never hit 4 of a kind on a 7 day cruise. Even full houses were hard to come by. Like I said this was a few years ago maybe they changed the payouts.

Other than that I really liked the ship! Its big and the adult pool section aft was great. We stayed in the haven as a CAS comp. So for me playing VP I would not go on that ship again. I did not play tables or slots. I also did not see anyone else win on my cruise.

I found the paytables for Double Double acceptable: 9/5 98.33%. Not great by any means, but for a cruise ship, it was playable (for me). These were for $1 and up VP. I don't know about other amounts. I had to hunt for these paytables....they were mixed among some lesser payback ones. The casino floor staff was excellent; friendly, fast, helpful and efficient.

Yes, you will have drink cards. The quality of the liquor/wine is low end. You can earn a Premium card that allows better brands. (see CAS section on NCL's website) I found their house wine AWFUL!

The dealers were exceptionally friendly. I was impressed with them and the pit crews. I didn't see any 6/5 blackjack. I have seen better payouts on Let it Ride and 3card poker but they have a captive audience after all. :-)

They have a host desk and I found a few that were helpful and a few that were unhelpful, cold and not the least bit interested in talking to me. I learned quickly to avoid certain ones and/or their shifts.

I advise to keep track of your points and go to the desk if you move up a tier. The dallies will announce when you should redeem points for free play and/or onboard charges. On my cruise it was 2 nights before at the host desk. I have read they changed this (again) to the night before but don't know for a fact. If you're a CAS player, they may automatically remove onboard charges according to your play but you should check to be sure.

Overall, I liked the casino very much. It had a decent variety of VP machines. I'm doing another cruise on the Epic, in a few months, primarily due to my casino and spa experiences.

Good luck!

I went on last year's NYE cruise and I am positive the DDB 1-5$ was at least 9/5. I believe there was one 5$ that had 9/6 on DDB. I thought there was one $2 one also with 9/6. I really did have to search the better ones. I don't play JOB; not that smart ;-)

I will make a mental note to pay closer mind to the paytables..I go back in a few months. I will post on here.

I had my share of good hits/handpays. This is not to say that I won overall, but I can't complain....the comps were good! <g>

Now, I have a question: are there NCL ships with better paytables?

I did well on the Dawn but that was over 4 years ago sailed her a few times and I don't remember the pay scale at the time.

I did good on the BA I played with their money the whole cruise came home even! I won on the $1 $2 and the $5 VP the casino staff is top notch! I am going again NYE and then a two night cruise. They have 3 machines that stand alone they are $5 $10 and $25 those were the best payouts on the BA. DBL DBL Poker at $5 was 9/5

You mentioned the SPA on the Epic I agree it is fantastic!

Asubaru, when are you going on the Epic? If prior to March, would love to see more feedback. If after, I can post for you.

I know at the $0.25 and $0.50 level on the Getaway, the DBL DBL BONUS were 7/5 machines (not as good as our local casinos in CO (mainly 9/5), but better than 6/5 10 coins on CCL). I figure that is my travel tax to get more days at sea and visit exotic locations, so I can at least handle that. :)

Monkeybone, thanks for the feedback!

Just got off the Gem and pay tables were bad. But I knew that as I have been on 15+ NCL cruises. I still play video poker but I jump around on the games. In August I got a royal on $1.00 DW and won $2k. Went to Atlantis and won another $9K. Did not happen this trip.

I won a of smaller pots on DDBonus and some other games. Did well off and on on some of the slots.

Didn't come out ahead this time but I am stil playing on last time's $11K.

I play 25cents and if my luck seems to be good I'll go to to 50 cents or $1.00 for a while and see what happens.

It's fun and it is great to have a casino in your back yar. I love the free drink card and I am inches away from Golden. Going to get it this trip!

Why didn't you get $4K for the DW Royal?

I sail in February. I will try to remember to note pay tables at various denominations. I have been known to take pictures of them.

That would be awesome! Mainly interested in the Full House/Flush payouts on the $0.25 Double Double Bonus Poker games. I assume will be the standard 8/5 that I encountered on the Sun and the Getaway. :) Picked up a 4 day on the CCL Triumph in January, so shifted focus a bit.....

I might try to hold you to this. :)

Quick Drink card question.....am I going to get in trouble for changing my room assignments on the ship after we get our drink cards? We have 6 adults in 2 rooms. I was going to get 4 drink cards and then switch to the room of 2 with my wife......think there will be issues or should I just get extra keys and leave everything else alone? I assumed that after drink cards are in hand, I can go to GS and make the "change" figuring the people on the ship don't really care how it was booked on paper......Thanks!
