C-breeze Posted July 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 20, 2017 I have researched both areas, but I have not been able to make a decision on what to do when tendered in Akaora. I would like to see The Giant House and walk through the town, but thought I might like to go to Christchurch. My question is, since the earthquake is it still worthwhile taking the 90 minute trip back and forth to see Christchurch or would it be more worthwhile spending my time in Akaora? We are seniors in our 60's going on the Solstice in January.
Esilef Posted July 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 20, 2017 We last went to Christchurch prior to the earthquake. It's a very beautiful city. On our cruise next year we are going to the antartic centre and then having a look around Christchurch. Akoroa is meant to be a beautiful place. I am wondering about renting a car from near the port and driving around.
Rare erewhon Posted July 21, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2017 Christchurch is gradually being rebuilt, so well worth a visit.
matamanoa Posted July 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2017 Friends of ours recently spent 7 weeks traveling around New Zealand. They found Akaroa to be pretty and charming but there is not enough to do there for a full day port stop. We asked them which city we should see in the one day we shall be in port and they said that Akaroa is small and would recommend going to Christchurch for the day. Much more to see and do and the scenery on the drive is well worth the time spent getting to Christchurch. We have booked an all day tour to the city with E S Tours. Hope this helps. Holly2 Posted July 22, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 22, 2017 Hi. Very validating isn't it? There is also nice scenery en route with Banks Penninsula..
