About a 5-minute walk from the dock there's the main terminus for the ĥop-on hop-off buses - there are 3 routes, and you can buy a ticket that lets you ride all of them. More info here: http://www.city-sightseeing.com/tours/italy/naples.htm

Have you considered maybe a private tour, that you could post on your roll call to see if others want to join? Even with 4 people it can be affordable.

That way you can be picked up right outside the terminal. Tours like wine tastings, lunch at a farmhouse, or even pizza making are available from private tours, which wouldn't involve a lot of walking.

I really enjoyed Naples and found it very easy to get around. The main tourist areas are rather compact. The city felt more "real" than many of the other typical cruise ports. The churches are also quite impressive.

We took a public bus to the anthropology museum and had no issues (although I saw reports of pickpockets on the buses).

Naples has so much to see.

There is a castle just in front the Cruise Terminal (Maschio Angioino). Then if you want walk a short distance you can take over the castle, where you see Galleria Umberto I, S.Carlo theater, the royal Bourbon palace and Piazza del Plebiscito. Via Roma (or via Toledo, it's same street!) is a pedestrian street famous for shopping and if you are in Naples you can't miss PIZZA! Wherever you are in Naples pizza is always delicious! That's an example of how to spend a day in Naples, otherwise you need a driver to reach the museums, the cathedral and the most panoramic view points!

That's only for keep to stay in Naples, because with a driver there are so many other alternative excursions!

The Piazza de Plebescito is very impressive. The area from Gesu Nuovo to Duomo along Via Tribunali was our favorite. We felt like there was a different church to pop our heads into every block. We also had some great pizza on Via Tribunali (although I can't remember the name of the restaurant).

The city is a little run down, in an almost romantic sort of way. Really quite pretty.

A driver would be an unnecessary extravagance in Naples, the archeological museum is only a little over a mile from the cruise port. If you don't want to walk there are several different buses that will take you there or a taxi with the fixed fare of just €7. Edited by euro cruiser

Wherever there are public transportation a private driver is an unnecessary extravagance!

In Naples I would not trust in buses, metro or trains timing, especially for the way back to the ship, because that means to plan with large times just in order to be safe.

You can reach the Archeological Museum in less then 2 miles if you know the street along the historical area but Naples has many different museums as Capodimonte or Bellearti.
