Canon SX50 or Sony HX400V for Alaska June 2015

Does anyone have experience with either of these cameras or have a better suggestion? I only have experience with point and shoot cameras. I have the SX50, but need to have it back to the store tomorrow, only had it for 10 days. I do like the image quality of it. I had tried out the newer SX60, which had a good grip to it and also took nice pictures, but not as sharp as the SX50. They are both fun to use. I would need to purchase the HX400V from Amazon to try out. I'm thinking a superzoom type camera is good for Alaska wildlife, but these usually have poor lowlight performance. Since Alaska can be rainy and overcast, should I be concerned about these choices? They both have a 50x zoom and are around $500. I considered the Nikon P600, and soon to be released P610, but the 600 had complaints of slow focus and slow writing to memory after burst shots. I'm thinking that's not good for whales and action shots. I need input on these points: zoom, low light, and speed. I know an SLR would be best, but I don't have time or inclination to learn it. I will be on the Coral Princess Vancouver to Whittier, followed by a one week self guided land tour for my 20th wedding anniversary!

I have an SX40. The pictures are sharp and it is fun to use. I have taken over 5,000 pictures with the camera, most on cruises (including AK and Mediterranean). I will be happy to have it with me on our planned Baltics cruise this summer. In Alaska there are a lot of reasons to carry a long zoom.

I'm on my second SX50. I wore the first one out after about 100K images. I use it mostly at concerts so I don't have much of the same low light experience that you will if it is rainy on your trip. You do have a lot of control with the settings, so it works pretty well, the lens is just not very fast.

If you are not going to take a DSLR then it is not a bad choice.

I have the SX50 and have over 20K pictures so far in 2 years. I have taken it on various trips and pics in all different lights (clouds, sun, shade) with excellent results. I like to take low-speed (1/8 - 1/3 sec) images of flowing water which needs shaded spots and printed at 11x14 with no graining.

I've just priced the SX50 at beach camera as a bundle at 370. The 50x (1200mm) zoom is incredible for wildlife shots. You will like it.

Again, I'm using an SX40. Here is a picture from Athens.
