DCL texting app - on other lines?

We recently got back from a DCL cruise and loved using their texting app to keep in contact with our kids while we were on the ship. Recently, my parents have offered to take us on a family cruise on a different cruise line (line to be determined). Do other companies offer something like this? Do they have cordless room phones that they call or text on? Is there an app like DCL has?

If so, which lines?

Is the Carnival HUB app free?

The app is free to download and use on board. For a small additional fee ($5 USD for the voyage) the HUB App offers chat.

Social ($5 USD per day) – Access the most popular websites and applications. Includes: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Snapchat. Does not include access to other websites or apps.

... which presumably would allow messaging via FB, etc... but could get quite expensive at $35/person/week if you didn't need it otherwise.

There is also Serval Mesh, though some research would be required to know if it was going to work on a given line/ship.
