Silver Sweethearts Posted July 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2016 Don't know if they have ever cancelled a cruise, but what has happened before is that they will reverse the itinerary and sail to Kauai first while the storm is around the Big Island and Maui. dexddd Posted July 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 23, 2016 All I can recall - vaguely - is one time a hurricane or tsunami was headed that way and they stayed out to sea one extra or part of the last day. Any form of compensation would be at the discretion of NCL.
Quasar1011 Posted September 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) The POA cruise I was on, couldn't dock at Kona on Aug. 31st, because the Port Authority closed the port due to the nearness of Hurricane Madeline. Also missed was the sailby of the lava flow into the ocean. To compensate, the captain sailed very close to Molokai; as well as give us an extra 4 hours docked in Kauai. That caused a minor problem for me, as I had a car rental reservation with Advantage. The ship arrived 2 hours early on Thursday. All the other rental companies seemed to have gotten the word that the ship would arrive early, and had their shuttles waiting outside the ship early. Not so with Advantage. One other passenger I was talking to, who also had a reservation with Advantage, became very irate; he wound up going back to the ship, as the other shuttles wouldn't let you board without a reservation. Finally, we found one that would, and we got to the airport, and walked across the street to Advantage; only to still have to wait in line for half an hour! Mind you, I didn't purchase the ship's internet package, and couldn't call Advantage to ask them to send the shuttle early. I could Google them from just outside the ship, but Google only displayed a link with an address, not a phone number. In hindsight, best to have a contact number before sailing! The POA also left Kauai 2 hours later than originally scheduled, on Friday. Edited September 6, 2016 by Quasar1011
