Does anyone know the entry fee into the pools and what that entry fee includes?

I presume you mean the Hot Salt Water pools at Mt Maunganui, which are just along from where the cruise ships dock?

If we're talking about the same beach/pool there was no charge to enter the beach but $5 fee to rent a shovel to dig a hole in the beach for your hot wTer pool experience.

Thanks for the quick answer Kiwi Kruzer. DH and I plan to walk The Mall to the mountain, climb the mountain, then hit the pool at the bottom. I'm just a bit confused about the pricing - not sure what a Concession Fee would be for.

The only beach in NZ where you can dig your own pool is Hot Water Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula, quite a way north of Tauranga / Mt Maunganui.

The concession fee is usually a cheaper rate for students and pensioners.

If you dig in the sand at Waiwera, just north of Auckland , you will also get hot water .
