SOShrink Posted February 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2017 I have a question about the Porto section of the Uniworld Portugal, Douro River Valley cruise for the few who have taken this trip. After spending a few days in Lisbon, we travel to Porto on Day 4 (having stopped in Coimbra on the way) and board the ship. Then it says that after "after unpacking" we sail from Porto sailing under all the bridges "as you cruise away from Porto", etc. But on Day 5, the next day, we have all the Porto tours. So how can we do that if we sailed from Porto the night before? Does the ship return to Porto or maybe just dock somewhere else? Just a minor issue but I was curious! Rare twototravel Posted February 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 19, 2017 I checked the itinerary for our upcoming Douro River cruise on Viking and we board our ship in Porto as well but then stay there a few days touring that area before we head off on the river. Since you cannot sail at night on this river, this sounds strange to me. It is only navigable by day. We did the Douro with AMA and were overnight in Porto twice, at the beginning and the end. laverendrye Posted February 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2017 As I recall, it is a short cruise of about an hour or so under the famous bridges of Porto. It takes you only a short way up-river and then to the mouth of the Douro before returning to the ship's berth at Vila Nova de Gaia.

Mrs Clooney Posted June 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2017 We are doing an evergreen RC and our itinerary is much the same so I'm assuming we do a nighttime drive by ( on the river) to see the city lights. Then a city tour the next day.
