Using the Metro from Athens Airport to City Centre

Anybody used the Metro to get from the Athens Airport to Plaka? We're staying at the Plaka Hotel. How difficult is it with luggage?

We looked at taking the train from the airport, but ultimately decided to splurge and hire a car for 47 euros. We're also staying at the Plaka Hotel, arriving on October 9 after a few days in Munich.

We could walk with our rolling luggage from Syntagma Square.

Both M3 (subway to Monastiraki) or X95 (express bus to Syntagma square) are direct lines from the airport and in walking distance to your hotel.

We took the X95 two weeks ago (6€ per person, busride was almost an hour) with one big trolley and handluggage.

There was a luggage area which filled up pretty fast and there were lots of travellers on our bus, so not everyone got to sit.

The metro is a bit closer for your hotel and i think it might be more comfortable than a bus.

Do you know how early the metro starts? I have an 08:00 flight to LHR so I think we need to be at the airport by 05:30 at the latest.

It looks like the line you'd need to get to the airport doesn't start running until 6:30 am:

However, the airport express bus runs 24/7.

We stayed at the Plaka Hotel last year. From the airport, we took the X95 bus (5 euros) to Syntagma Square. (Don't forget to validate your ticket.) Then we walked down Mitropoleos Street to the hotel. Be sure to go up at night to have a drink and admire the view from the rooftop.

Thanks, I've decided to just take a cab from my hotel to the airport. With having to be there so early I feel it's worth the extra amount.
