cmood Posted January 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Hi, We were thinking of cruising at the end of August, but were reluctantly stopped by our friend's bad experience last August. They didn't even get a chance to dock due to a hurricane. It turned out to be a five sea day cruise. I understand the weather is somewhat unpredictable, but does anyone have a clue as to whether it is better to go in June or August? We are going as a group of 30 people, so we really don't want the weather to disappoint everyone. Thanks a lot, cmood
njhorseman Posted January 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Hurricanes and tropical storms can occur at any time, even outside the official Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. If you look at the historical data in this graph, http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/climo/#cp100 , you'll see that there are far fewer hurricanes and tropical storms in June than in August. (The graph covers the entire Atlantic basin. Very few of the storms actually affect Bermuda.) There's very little chance of a hurricane or tropical storm forcing a cruise to divert from Bermuda even in peak hurricane time from mid August through October. But, if that's your primary concern, then going in June lessens the risk.
racerxspeedy Posted February 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2015 August will be warmer 85F than June 79F. Last year had lots of rain on the most expensive weeks. The best deals re after Labor Day - no problems 4 out of 4 times that late
ryukin88 Posted February 19, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2015 We were the unlucky ones that got diverted last year at the end of August by Hurricane Cristobol. Ended up doing the Bahamas itinerary.
